Third person POV

"Moony we have to buy things!" Sirius exclaimed after Harry had gone to sleep. "What for?" The exhausted professor asked, third years and Boggarts. Damned things. "Harry wants a pet dog." The shorter male exclaimed, bouncing on his feet, his hair falling to the side. "No. He has you. You're a fine dog." Remus deadpanned, Sirius looked distraught. "Please Moony? He doesn't talk to me a lot anymore, he needs an animal to talk too. He doesn't fully trust adults. Or other people full stop. And Hedwig doesn't really count."

"Fine!" The prof exclaimed, he attempted a glare but he broke it with a huge grin. "What kind? Harry dislikes small dogs.. He likes big scary ones, for whatever reason." He smirked, "Hey! I'm not big and scary." Sirius complained. "You were when you were dragging Ron by the arm to the shrieking shack, and broke his leg." Remus reasoned, Sirius paled, and turned away. "It was an accident though." He almost whispered, "And you nearly bleedin' killed 'em! So shut up and help me decide on a dog."

The conversation was merely forgotten and the couple decided on a breed.

A week had passed, with Malfoy getting more detentions than ever and Harry becoming slowly more terrified of other students. See, Draco didn't see any of it fair. He had simply been comforting and protecting Harry when he had panic attacks in the hall, but Filch had to go and ruin it and give him a weeks worth of detentions, meaning he couldn't look after Harry. To say he was pissed was putting it extremely lightly.

He had told Harry's Godparents about this issue, and they were trying to fix it, however the small boy only found comfort in one particular Slytherin, and nobody understood why. Not even Harry.

Harry got dressed one Wednesday morning, feeling excited for some unknown reason. "Coming Siri?" The boy asked the man who was still in bed. "No Harry.. I don't feel so good, you'll be okay, won't you?" And feeling slightly afraid, Harry nodded his head, making his way for the hall.

He was happily eating his breakfast when the Great big wooden doors slammed open, gaining everyone's stares. "It's Sirius Black! Isn't he meant to be in Azkaban?" One Hufflepuff asked, "No you moron! He's innocent." Another snapped, but Harry tuned them all out.

"Hi Harry, I have a gift for you. Professor Lupin kindly informed me that your dog was getting sick, he's a tad old. I heard his furs going grey." And people let out laughs, Harry's face masked with confusion. "So I bought you a gift. He's a tad small, but he'll accompany you none the less." And with that, the man pulled out a small Rottweiler puppy from his robes, and efficiently dropped him on Harry's lap, turning to leave. "Don't forget to owl me! It's incredibly lonely at home." And with that he was gone, the doors slamming efficiently behind him.

The hall was silent, and then a small bark was heard, and Harry cuddled the puppy to his chest. He was happy. "Awh! Harry can we pet him?" One girl asked, reaching over to touch his head, but Harry hid him, the poor thing was terrified.

"Well then!" Dumbledore said from his stand, eyeing the boy and dog. "Harry, my boy, what do you wish to call your new puppy?" Everyone was eager, he could see. The dog almost had a Snape-like aura, but the boy wasn't going to name his dog Severus, and certainly not Snape, but then he remembered, Snape's mother's maiden name was Prince! That was perfect! "Prince." He said simply, and Snape almost looked taken aback, and started eyeing the two.

"As it is! Prince, everybody!" Dumbledore bellowed, almost too cheerily for everyone's liking, but all clapped none the less. Then not 10 minutes later a very tired black dog came trotting in, barking his apology and setting himself down at Harry's feet. The boy fed him some Bacon and eggs, setting the puppy next to him, and he watched the two get along. And when the bell went, Padfoot picked Prince up within his jaws and walked next to Harry to potions.

The day went by quick enough, Harry anticipating taking Prince and going to meet Draco outside the RoR on seventh floor. Finally the bell went, Harry sent Padfoot on his way, and he took Prince the puppy with him.

Luck wasn't on Harry's side and he bumped into a particular potions Professor, who looked at the small yet somewhat terrifying puppy, but payed no attention. "And where are you going  Mister Potter?" He finally drawled out, "To meet Draco Sir." He answered simply, the puppy jumping from his grasp, and running down the hall. "Prince no!" Harry yelled, attempting to run after him, but Snape caught his arm.

"Why did you call him that, may I ask?" He rather demanded that asked. "Its a long story-" he started, "Tell me the short version then." He snapped, "Okay Sir. See, well, my mother had a diary, it was hard to read because she had it when she was like nine and its quite old, but she said if she ever had a male guard dog she'd call him Prince, for two reasons. One, because it was the closest thing she could get to 'protector' that didn't sound stupid and two, because she had a best friend, and he hated his last name, and his mothers last name, before marriage, was Prince." He concluded quickly, Snape looked slightly taken aback.

"Did she say anything else about this best friend of hers?" He asked, "I think he upset her, because she ripped a lot of the pages out and I think they were the ones that included him. Every time he'd come up she'd cross his part out." And Snape nodded, "You may go." He said, stalking down the hall. "Thanks professor!" Harry yelled, running down the hall calling for his dog.
