Sophie was lying on the ground with her hair matted to her face, and red around her mouth. Fitz was staring down at her with red, tear stained eyes.

"You are my sunshine." Sophie started with a watery sound.

"Shhh, Sophie, Elwin is almost here." Fitz said in a calming, soothing voice.

The Neverseen had returned after 4 long years and the Black Swan had called for Sophie, Dex, Fitz, Linh, Biana, and Tams help to bring them back in.

"My only sunshine."

By this time, everyone was red and puffy, with injuries of their own, but none as severe as Sophie. They all stared at the cognates in fear. They knew this time it was for real.

"Everyone move. Out of my way." An urgent voice stated, rushing to Sophie's side.

"Elwin!!" Sophie sounded excited to see him, like a little child going to Disney.

Edaline gasped from the sides and started to sob even louder.

"You make me happy," Sophie called to Fitz.

"Hush Sophie."

Sophie shrugged slightly, then winced. Her eyes becoming more bloodshot by the second. She was getting paler faster than expected. Elwin pulled Sophie's shirt up to her ribs to examine her wound.

He turned around and frowned. He stood up and started shaking his head while turning to Fitz.

"When sky's are gray." Sophie managed to say in a pained voice. It faltered out to nothingness.

Her chest rose and fell still. "Noooooo." Fitz sobbed, collapsing into Della and Biana's arms.

"No. Not again." Edaline sounded completely and utterly devastated.

Fitz crawled over to Sophie's limp, pale, and cold body. "Please don't take my sunshine away."
