Brittany

I was so used to waking up next to Alec in the mornings. No one should ever have to experience that. But, I guess since I killed him then it was only kind of fair.

"Leave," I told him Thursday morning as I prepared for the school day. Surprisingly, he listened and disappeared.

I slipped a white dress on and headed to the bathroom to fix my hair and make-up. My mom had already left, so I was just going to have to grab something on my way to school. Sonic was busy so I pulled through McDonald's and headed to school. I pulled into my usual parking spot next to the tennis courts and sat in my car, eating breakfast.

Out of nowhere, there was a knock on my passenger side window. I looked over and saw Phoebe Neese standing there, smiling. I nodded my head for her to get in.

She sat down and closed the door. Phoebe turned to me, dead serious. "I know you're a werewolf." Her eyes were gleaming and she was smiling widely.

I nearly choked on my McMuffin. "What?!"

"I know you're werewolf."

I looked straight at her with my face twisted in disbelief. "No, that's not even possible. There's no such thing."

Phoebe narrowed her eyes at me. "Don't try to deny it. I know it's true. You can trust me, Brittany."

"Get out of my car!" I demanded.

She did as I asked but before she closed the door she leaned back in and said, "It's okay, because I'm a wolf, too."

I sat in shock. When my mom said that there were others, I didn't expect them to be going to school with me. My appetite minimized to nothing. How did Phoebe even know? And if she was a wolf...that means she had to have killed someone.

"Well, hello there." Alec appeared in my passenger seat, all dimples and shining eyes.

I was not in the mood for this. I let my head fall onto my steering wheel.

Sawyer

It was my job to protect people from vampires. And now, Diana had me sparing one. But, how could I even try to claim that Lydia was an evil blood sucker when Diana made me feel like that the other day? I couldn't. If one of her friends was a vampire, though, I was sure that some of her other ones were, too. I sighed heavily and ran my hand through my hair.

"Hey!" Diana slid into the bench beside me. "My mom made me sushi for lunch. Have you ever had any?"

I halfway smiled at her. "No. But I'd like to try some."

She looked at me and then opened up a little RubberMaid container with little balls of rice and fish. Diana handed me chopsticks, then pulled out some for herself. I examined the metal sticks and tried to hold them correctly.

Diana giggled and then set hers down. "Look," she said, taking my hand in hers. "Put your finger here like this." I let her position the chopsticks correctly in my hand.

"Thanks." I smiled at her. She smiled back and I couldn't help but think how cute it was. Something caught my eye out of the corner.

I squinted, looking closer. Outside, there was a tall blonde guy talking to a girl. He was holding eye contact. I stood up and ran through the main doors. Just as I got outside, he took the girls neck and bit into her. No. Not here. I grabbed the wooden stake soaked in holy water from my pocket and ran full speed at the guy, momentarily forgetting Diana. I blinked and he was gone.

"Sorry mate, better luck next time." I turned around and he was standing there behind me with his hands in his blazer pockets. I tried to stab him, he looked so unprepared. He twisted my arm behind me, the stake falling to the ground.

"Sawyer!" Diana was running towards me.

"No! Diana don't come any closer!" But she was already right there. I finally realized where I'd seen that guy before. He was the man from the pictures in class yesterday. Kohl. "Diana he's a vampire!" I tried to get off the ground.

Kohl stared into Diana's eyes. "Be a good friend and take your hunter boy here to the hospital." And he was gone.

"Come on," Diana said. She helped me up off the ground. "We gotta get you to the hospital."*
