I woke up on a leather couch that faced a large fire place. I was still in my gown I'd worn to the masquerade last night. Then I remembered that Kohl Pennet had kidnapped me, basically. I looked around and saw nobody. This was my chance to run. Without a second thought, I got up and ran to the door.

"Going somewhere?" Kohl said as I opened the door.

I didn't look back. I bolted out the door as soon as I got it open and ran to the elevator. Hands grabbed my arms from behind. I fought him and struggled, but I was just wasting my energy. Kohl threw me back into his apartment.

"Try to run again, and I'll have my hybrid kill you. That's a promise. I can find another witch." Kohl walked over to me with his hands in his pockets. "Let's get right down to business." He took a seat across from me. "I need you to cast a spell for me. A very important spell. I need you to help me awaken Rex, the true alpha."

The whole time Kohl was talking, I was planning my escape. In one quick movement, I jumped up and used my powers to snap his neck. I knew it was temporary, but it would keep him long enough. I ran from his apartment with my purse, dialing Lydia's number. When she finally answered, I told her to pick me up from the IHOP that was by the mall.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked as soon as I got in the back of her car. There was a guy in her front seat.

"Um, yeah. I actually was kidnapped by Kohl Pennet, but, you know, no big deal," I said sarcastically.

The guy turned around and looked at me crazily. "Kohl Pennet kidnapped you?!"

I told him everything that happened, including Kohl's plan to raise the alpha.

"This is bad. This is very bad," the guy said.

"Jasmine, Damian, what does all of this mean?" Lydia asked.

"I would like to know that, also," I put in, looking at Damian.

"Well," he began, "it means that we have to stop him or Rex will kill us all. Also, the sacrifice requires murder. So, if we can't stop Kohl, then we all better flee the country."

"We only have on option, then. We have to stop Kohl."

Athena knocked on my door Saturday morning. She didn't even wait until I answered the door, she just came in. Whatever she needed must be important. I offered to make her breakfast, which would be scrambled eggs and potatoes, and she accepted.

"So how close are you with Mr. Hernanchez, exactly?" she questioned as I diced potatoes.

I thought for a second before I answered. "Well, I guess we're pretty close. He's, like, an uncle kind of. Why?" I put the little cubes of potatoes in the pan to fry.

"Because we need his help. Tell him we need to know how to stop someone from raising the true alpha, Rex."

I started whisking the eggs. "Here, get my phone and call him." I poured the eggs into a skillet and handed my phone to Athena.

"Why do I have to call him?"

"Because I don't know what to ask," I said and turned my attention to the food as she took my phone.

I listened as she started talking. She was asking him questions like who was Rex and what was he and what kind of ritual was necessary for awakening him. I had finished breakfast by the time she was off the phone. A glass of orange juice sat on the table beside her plate.

Athena sat down and then looked at her plate. "Thanks for breakfast, it looks delicious."

"Anytime," I replied with a smile. "So, um, what'd Hernanchez say?"
