CHAPTER

SIX

I thought I knew Jane, boy was I wrong. She has has many secrets that she kept from Graham and I, stuff that changes a relationship forever. When Jane was 4 her mother, a strong drinker, gave birth to a baby boy. His name was Joseph. Jane and him became close friends, but Joseph was small and weak for his age, a runt. Janes mother knew he was going to die very early on, but they trudged forwards, making every moment they had special with the small boy. They kept his life a secret because Janes family doesn't accept charity of any kind. They didn't want people to mourn over their child so they hid him away from the society. Joseph never knew hate and destruction, Janes mom gave up drinking for the baby. He had a short, yet fulfilling life. When the day of silence finally came, Jane lost her sanity. She couldn't accept the loss of her sibling, and that caused a part of her brain to lessen in power, creating big mood swings that could he dangerously chaotic. Listening to this story a wave of melancholy washed over me and soaked me to he core. I finally understood that the real evil is sorrow. Rooted in her words I continued to listen, I learned of how Jane takes pills to control her mood swings and up until last night hadn't experienced one in 4 years. Graham had a look of uncertainty played upon his face during the telling of the story. I could tell by his soft eyes that he felt a strong empathy for Jane and wished he could soothe her, but didn't know how to approach her. While Jane told her pitiful tale, she cried softly and took deep breaths. I was overly consumed in my life at that time, I felt as though someone has showed me that life is important, and I knew that Jane did. Jane finished up her story by saying that she loved Graham and I, and had a plan for our escape from this town. I tried to cheer up a little bit and sat forwards bringing my posture to a more heroic form.

"Jane, we're not leaving," I said strongly, "you need to stay here with your mother and father, they don't deserve to lose another child."

"He's right," said Graham, "we all need to stay."

Graham and I both firmly agreed on this and had a pact as solid as a brother that sticks with his brother.

"You guys are failing to see the point." Jane said, angry now.

"The cops are coming for us, I'll stay behind, and hold them off while you escape. I'll meet with you later."

"No! Jane I'm not leaving you!" Graham yelled tears streaming down his face.

"I can't leave...because I love you!"

With that Graham rushed forwards and kissed Jane. I could feel the surge of love pass through the ground. I felt a bit awkward standing around while Graham and Jane kissed at each other strongly.

"Hey, I hate to break this up but if were gonna leave we have to leave now, its just a matter of time before the police start checking our houses."

Jane pulled away from Grahams embrace. "You're right! Jay, Graham, go to the train station and get a ticket out of this place. Ill meet up with you later."

I pulled Jay away.

"Bye Jane, stay safe!" I yelled

"Bye Jane, I love you!" Graham yelled tears trickling down his face like fresh rain on a fence post. Then we were off, off to find a train to lead us out of this mess. A train to nowhere.
