Alex's POV

*BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP*

A loud crash sounded as a tan hand with sharp nails removed the irritating noise via a very short flight across the room. After which it revealed a pair of annoyed golden eyes under a mess of flame-red hair from beneath the covers, shortly followed by a pointed nose and a scowling mouth.

"Fucking alarm clock," I growl scowling, "I hate mornings."

Crawling out of his bed,he got two Pokéballs off of his nightstand and called out his partners Luna and Orion. Luna was a female, white and black furred Lucario. She has been entrusted to him by his father as an egg when he was only four years old. He found Orion not long after, he is a male Zoroark who Alex had found abandoned as an egg while walking around the woods outside his house shortly after receiving Luna's egg. Alex was enraged! He swore if he ever found out who left an unhatched egg all alone, that he would make sure they played dearly. With his mind made up; he would care of this egg as well as the one his father gave him and they would become his new siblings. Orion hatched almost one month after being found – Luna only having hatched a few days prior – and he officially declared them to be family. His father reluctantly approved on the condition that they were to be caught in Pokéballs to prevent another trainer from doing so.

"Morning guys," says Alex, "Ready to go?"

"Food first, then we go," Orion yawns.

"Also," adds Luna, "go where? Last I checked you weren't needed at the lab today."

"Oh, yeah," says Orion, "why'd you wake us up again?"

"Did you guys really forget?!" I basically scream at them, "I woke you up because, while the lab is closed today, we have the keys... and certain materials just arrived last night."

"Oh... we're still doing that?" replies Luna, frowning.

"What are you implying?" I say, glaring at my friend.

"Oh, you know," Orion replies, "Just the usual: 'Are you trying to kill yourself?!' and 'We shouldn't be doing this' crap that Luna always says when we get to try one of your ideas."

"I DO THAT FOR GOOD REASON!!!" shouts Luna, "Alex, you may be one of the smartest humans I know of. But when it comes to your ideas, the word safety seems to have absolutely NO MEANING!"

"Have I ever injured anyone?" I reply innocently.

"Do you want that list in alphabetical or chronological order?" asks Luna.

"Come on, Luna, you know what he meant," says Orion, "everyone was fine after a few hours in a recovery unit."

At this point I tuned them out. I then continued grabbing things I will likely need for the experiments including the box labeled FRAGILE that had arrived the night before. I spent my whole life as 'Professor Shard's son' and I'm through living in his shadow. So what if I had spent a few years going to places I likely had no business being both online and offline. I now have what I need to out shine my father and let him be in my shadow for once. I headed out to the lab knowing that Luna and Orion would follow once they were done with their arguing.

I enter the lobby of the lab and punch in the security code. I then go to my personal workshop and sit at my desk. To anyone who would pass by it would look as if I am simply reclining, composing my thoughts before beginning a project. Until I hit a switch under the desk revealing a fingerprint and DNA scanner both with pulsing with recognition. A sliding panel reveals my true workspace, where I collect my gear and box as I enter. When I am about to pass through the sliding door, Orion and Luna came into my office apparently in yet another argument in which I continue to ignore them while holding the door so it did not close on them.

The equipment had been set up weeks ago as one of these experiments simply require testing while the other needs one last component. The last component is within the aforementioned box. Setting down my gear and the box on a table, I open the top of the box with the knife portion of my multitool (a must have for campers and scientists alike).

I then drag out a metallic cylinder and inserted it into slot one in one of the machines. Then taking out two more labeled cylinders and inserting them into slots two and three. I leave the rest to Luna and Orion as I get changed into a full body wetsuit and get into the large glass tube. As I wire myself into the life support system both Orion and Luna look at me through the glass.

"Alex," Luna says worriedly, "If you die from this, you better not come back as a Ghost-Type, because if you do I'm going to kill you all over again."

"Love you too, Luna" I reply, ready to go through with the experiment. "Good to go, Orion?"

"All clear," says Orion grinning sadistically.

The tube starts filling with liquid and I strap on my breathing mask. Once the liquid has filled the tank I give the other two a thumbs up and Luna hits the button that sends the contents of the three metal cylinders into my tank. Almost immediately, I begin to writhe in pain. I see the worried expressions of my two companions, but we all know it's too late to stop. What I didn't tell them however, is that whether or not the plan works as expected, I won't be exiting this tank......

??? POV

I see Alex heading to the lab with a serious expression with Orion and Luna by his side, not a minute later without arguing about something. I decide to follow them or rather, I want to hang out with Alex. We use to be inseparable as kids until my parents decide to move to Kanto ten years ago. We kept in touch and visit each other often. That is until about a month ago, when Professor Oak asked me to go on a journey in order to help him with his research of the Alola Region. Since I am back, I decided to pay Alex a visit.

I snuck into the lab while Luna and Orion stand in awe of his hidden workshop. I notice he is in a changing room and decide to hide next to a large machine to surprise him after the experiment with congratulations or condolences, depending on the results. I am surprised when he exits the changing room with a scuba outfit on and enters a large glass tube. He seems to know what he's doing so far so I don't worry too much despite the tightness in my chest. But when he starts writhing in pain, I jump back accidentally powering on the machine I am hiding next to. Before I could turn it off, a large vortex of pure energy flashes into existence in a burst of white light. Dark bolts begin to erupt from within the energy vortex and then, a bolt forks its way and hits both Orion and Luna. I try to shutdown the machine but before I can get a chance, another bolt of dark energy hits Alex and shatters the glass tube he is in, while another fork of said bolt almost hits me. My last memory of this place is all of us being pulled towards the vortex...

Then pain and darkness...
