Alex's POV:
I ended up keeping watch all night due to my new form having slightly enhanced senses... everything sounded so clear, like I can hear the crickets far away, even the incessant annoying goddamn snoring of Orion. Trust me, it's not pleasant. At all. I can see very well in the night, and I am much stronger. This'll take some time to get used to, with all these new senses that my previous form didn't have. While I'm on guard duty, I decide to practice my psychic powers by lifting varying sized cement blocks, chunks from the ruined structure. Either way it was loud with a capitalized, bolded, italicized, and underlined loud... Wait I got off track. Anywho, after I got a scolding by Luna and Orion got over his little breathing problem, which may or may not have something to do with my retaliation for laughing at the aforementioned scolding, we began to break camp.
After everything is packed up - and by everything I mean the things we 'borrowed' from whomever the original inhabitants were (not like they're here to complain) - we hear a buzzing noise outside.
"What is that incessant buzzing?" I say, thinking aloud.
"Sounds like one of those hell chompers self-important humans like to use." Orion said before quickly adding, "present company excluded of course."
"First off, they're called helicopters, not hell chompers. Second," Luna sighed looking at my new hand, "Alex isn't exactly human at the moment."
"Idiots." I say smacking the backs of their heads, "One, the helicopter is a sign of intelligent life – most likely humans so at least we are on the same planet. Two, it's headed this way so we need to find out if they're friendly or not. Three, depending on the outcome of my second point we may need to fight our way out which means we need to have a plan. Now, since we're short on time, I'll keep it short, sweet, and to the point. If these people are friendly Luna will explain our situation to them but if not we will not be staying for a drawn out fight. We pick a direction and run. If we get separated hide until the danger is past and meet up back at the edge of the forest near here. Understood?"
"SIR YES SIR!" Orion and Luna states while staring at the approaching helicopter.
To repay them for listening and respecting my authority I gave them a pat on the head... which left a few lumps. Treat me like a Drill Sergeant and a Drill Sergeant I shall become. We then left to see who or what we had to deal with.
*******time skip brought to you by Alex and co. trying to be ninja's and failing terribly*******
So we're hiding in the branches of a tree a good bit away from the compound. The helicopter flew directly over the tree we were hiding in before landing in the ruined compound. For a second I thought I... felt something? It was weird. I can't really describe it but it's kinda like that feeling that someone's watching you and a slight pressure on your brain combined into one, it doesn't hurt. It just feels really weird.
A few minutes had passed after the helicopter landed behind the barracks (of course it had to land behind the last building standing) and we haven't seen any activity after that. So, we decided to investigate! And by that I mean that Orion got bored, jumped down from his branch, and started walking towards the building we had sheltered in last night, leaving Luna and myself no choice but to follow.
We rounded the corner of the building and found...
"Nothing." I say
"Where the hell is that hell chomper?!" Orion growls
