The surprise. The hope. The glimpse of excitement. Laylie's hands grasp the folder as she reads the file carefully and diligently. I know her. Her desire and determination to seek her father has shown each and every day she has been here. She has gone through much pain in her life, yet the fire in her eyes still burns.

Her hair sways in the slight breeze. The sound of the waves softly crashing on the shore. At this moment I feel content.

"This is amazing," she says.

"It took time, but we have located him through many connections. And have concluded that Dimitri may be residing at a property of a distant acquaintance,"

"Who? What person?" Laylie asks as she places the file on the table.

If Laylie knew that the only way we found this information was from finding out Nace's father has been associated with Dimitri's business, she will break. I shouldn't tell her. At least not now.

A strong gust of wind passes causes Laylie to shift uncomfortably.

"How about we head back, it's starting to get cold out," I stand up and Laylie follows. I wrap my arm around her waist as we walk back to the car and head back to the house. We have a bit of a drive back home since the good beaches are a bit far from the house.

"So are you gonna tell me who's place my father is staying at?" Laylie asks once again. I look over at her. The light is turned on as Laylie stares at me waiting for an answer. Her soft blue eyes bore into mine and the urge to place my lips on hers is overwhelming.

"Well we found ou-" suddenly the car come to a sharp screeching halt and instantly I place my arm across Laylie and use my other hand pressing it against the chair in front of me.

"Chris! What's going on?!" And as fast as we stopped, Chris immediately presses down on the gas and reversed away from a black car that came to halt right in front of us. Shit.

"Well sir as you see, someone is trying to stop us." The screeching of the tires erupt in the quiet night and the roaring of the engine ignites the adrenaline in me. I whip my head to Laylie as I see the confusion on her face. But then, she sits up straight and speaks.

"Turn the next sharp left!" she yells.

"huh-" Chris begins.

"Just do as she says!" I trust her.

The tires screech once again. Laylie grasps the car steadying herself.

BANG BANG BANG.

Three shots fired at the car. What the fuck! Immediately I reach under the chair to grab the emergency gun placed there. I turn around but am blinded by the headlights of the car.

"Fuck," I say under my breath. More shots are fired but I notice they are not aiming to the window, rather the bottom of the vehicle. The tires. The want her alive. I have not idea if this person wants Laylie safe under her father's orders or dead in order to get her father's whereabouts to terminate him. Either way, I cannot let Laylie leave me. Yes, call me fucking selfish but she is too valuable to me in more ways than anyone can imagine. The gun is ripped from my grip taking me by surprise. Laylie

"What the-"

BANG BANG BANG BANG.

Laylie fires four rounds from her window. "Laylie! Get back in!" I grab her waist pulling her back in the car.
