I stood in the mirror at my parents' house. I was going to a funeral for my grandmother, Candice. I sniffed, wiping away any escaping tears before walking to the living room. "Ready to go?" My mom asked. I nodded, feeling Brandon grab my hand. He rubbed his thumb along my hand before we all walked outside. We got into the car and drove to the church.
I stood beside my mom after grandma's as people hugged us and gave their condolences. Brandon was the last person to hug me. I laid my head into the crook of his neck, crying softly. He rubbed my back slowly and kissed my cheek. I wiped my eyes before we got into his car. "Ready to go to your house?" He asked and I nodded. I stared out the window as he drove.
"Brittany, come here." I heard my mom say. I walked over to her and saw she was holding an envelope. "What's that?" I asked, sitting beside her. "It's from your grandmother." She handed it to me. I rubbed my thumb over her writing. I carefully opened it and took out the note
Dear my lovely Brittany,
If you're reading this note, I must've gone to a better place. I'm so proud of you. When you born, I knew that you were going to be something. As I watched you grow, I was so amazed at how sweet and kind you are. I know you must be hurt that I had to leave you but I want you to know that it's ok. I don't want you to feel sad about me. Be happy, dance in the rain with that cute boyfriend of yours. When I have to go, I want everyone to be happy. I don't want a sad funeral, I want a great celebration of life. Inside the envelope is some money and a small present for you. Whatever you do with your money is your choice but I want you to treat yourself. I love you so much and I'll always be with you
Love grandma
I chuckled softly and wiped away my tears. I looked again and saw a $100 bill and a small charm. I picked it up and smiled; it was a silver angel wing with a small heart. I put the letter on the table and carefully put the charm on. "It's beautiful." Mom smiled and I did too.
