He holds my gaze for a couple seconds then smiles and holds out his hand, “Hey I’m Jake Landon, I think we’ve already met in a way.”
I laugh and shake his hand, “Well hey I’m Karoline Jo Ainsley and you’re the guy from the boardwalk…the one who almost hit me in the head!” Before either of us could continue, our waiter comes to take our orders. I watch the waiter walk off and when I turn to Jake, he has this huge smirk on his face. So I ask, “What?”
“Oh nothing, just wondering if the ball I kicked really hit you in the head, what your reaction would’ve been.” Ooo he has a point.
“Well I mean, it was a hard kick and I almost fell off my skateboard. Hmm..Nah I wouldn’t have been mad at all. I mean at least you came over to see if I was okay.” Then I notice a soccer game playing on one of the TV’s and for the rest of our lunch we were engrossed in the game and made small talk for the majority of the time…

Afterwards, both of our families stand outside the restaurant and continue to mingle. Well I mean our parents for the most part; Jake and I just stand awkwardly next to each other. I really had no idea what to talk about, I was as nervous as nervous could get. If I were to look at his face again I promise I would pass out. Then I was caught completely off guard. Some random guys on skateboards come toward me and soon I get a weird feeling. “Hey pretty girl.” I literally wanted to kick them where the sun doesn’t shine. So I fake smile, “Hey, do I know you?” I guess the most attractive one of the group was the most interested in me.
He smiles, “Not yet, but I’m Brady.” Aww that’s an extremely attractive name. Then I notice his board and it’s almost the same as one of mines. So I couldn’t help but mention it.
“Guessing you skate, haha same here. Believe it or not but your board is almost the same as mine. Except I have a little more stable combination. Err..I have a Plan B board with Girl trucks and Nicotine wheels. I stare back at a couple shocked faces…and add “And I’m Karoline Jo Ainsley…I just moved here” From the corner of my eye I see Jake giving one of them a dirty look. Then Brady acknowledges Jake.
“Oh Jake, didn’t see you there.”
Jake snarls, “Sure you didn’t.” The tension between the two is just intense. Brady turns back to me and smiles.
“You really don’t want to be friends with this loser.” I frown and as I was about to fire something back at him Jake steps in front of me.
“Do I have to remind you where you belong? Last time I remember you lost to my team. Oh and that time you weren’t accepted onto my team. Then there’s the fact that you will never be able to make MY TEAM.” Brady tries to speak, but it comes out like a whisper. Jake then says, “Oh sorry, I didn’t catch that second place-“ I grab his arm (which is so muscular) and give him a look.
“Jake stop it’s okay.” Both of their jaws are still clenched so I continue. “Guys. Seriously. So I’m guessing you’re rivals. Okay. Well let’s put it this way. Jake stay on your side. And Brady you stay on yours. I’m the neutral ground. So I make sure neither of you cross the line. Good? Good. Now it was nice meeting you Brady, I’m sure I’ll see you around.” And with that Brady and his friends skate off.
