It was early into summer, and for some apparent reason, they decided to have our prom. Only this time it was a talent show too. A talent show, and then a dance, you know?

I was getting ready with Sodapop and Darry, since they were both going with me, and Maggie was in the other room, deciding on a couple of dresses.
"Hurry up, Maggie! You're gonna be late!" Darry called from the bathroom. I was greasing my hair and straightening my tie, when I heard something slam in my bedroom.
"Ow! Blasted heels!" Maggie screamed.
Of course I sprinted to the room, to see Maggie on the floor, tangled in her dress, and a broken heel.
"Glory, what happened to you?" I said, pulling her up.
"Stupid thing got tangled and I tripped." She murmured. "Y'all just go on ahead, I'll be there shortly."
"You sure?" I said. She nodded and nudged me.
"Go, Ponyboy."

Darry hastily left with me and Soda. Steve and Two-Bit were following us to the school with their girls. Now that I think of it, it was dumb to even drive, because the school is only a five minute walk, and we all were just gonna get ripped anyways. Including Maggie.

We sat down in the crowd and waited for Maggie to come. I was getting excited, mainly because I wanted to see her in a dress, and I was getting a real kick out of the whole scene. There were lots of coloured lights and props. On stage there was some little props too. The gym was crowded. The socs on the right and the greasers on the left and the "normal" kids as we call them, were scattered. About ten minutes went by and Mag still wasn't there. I leaned over to Darry and shouted over the loud talking and laughing.
"Should I go check on her? It's been ten minutes!"
"I'm sure she's okay." Darry shouted. "She's probably just getting ready."
"It don't take her ten minutes to get ready. What if she was jumped?" I speculated.
"Just hold tight for a sec, would ya?" Darry said as a man we never seen before came on stage.
"Hello, Tulsa!" He shouted into the microphone. "Welcome to our annual summer bash, filmed live on channel six!"
The crowd rejoiced, and we could hear the socs hooting and hollering.
"Shut up, you apes! Quit hollerin' like a bunch of coyotes!" Two-Bit yelled.
"Why don't you, punk!" A soc said, standing up.
"Alrighty, ladies. Quit bickering so we can proceed!" The host said. The crowd erupted into laughter as Two-Bit and the soc sat down. Turns out the host was some show comedian called Marty Lester. Apparently he had a pretty successful show called The Marty Show. Basically it was a teen dance show in Houston. Anyhow, Marty gave off a wide grin and continued talking.
"Today's episode of The Marty Show, I'm here in Tulsa Oklahoma with some mighty fine high school kids, for their annual prom! With a twist!" Marty cocked an eyebrow. "Now fasten your seatbelts everyone, for today will be a wild ride. Now, please give a warm welcome, to the girl running this dance, organizing the performances, Magnolia Jones!"
I was shocked. Maggie never mentioned anything about being in a dance/talent show! Steve, Soda, and Two-Bit started cheering, as well as Val Hughes, Maggie's best friend.

Maggie walked out on stage with her hair done up in this braid crown thingy, and wearing a pale pink dress. Golly, didn't she look beautiful! I started cheering loudly for her.
"That's my girl!" I shouted.
"Hello, everyone. It's such a pleasure to be here, doing this for y'all. I hope you enjoy the show!" She beamed with joy. Everyone cheered once again.
"For the first performance, I'm gonna sing a song, one you all might recognize..". Maggie lost her words, but before she could get them back, a familiar, yet husky voice shouted.
"Hurry up Jones! We ain't getting any younger over here!"
"Shut your trap Randy, and go get some crabs from Stella!" Maggie fired back. We all laughed and shouted at Randy, who was throwing an icy glare at Maggie. She just shrugged and continued. Oh, my, my, the teachers were repulsed. They looked as if they wanted to belt Maggie with a ruler. Golly, it was funny seeing the looks on their faces.
"This is for someone who means a real lot to me." Maggie blushed and everyone started cheering at me and Sodapop and the guys, nudged me. It went quiet, as mellow music started playing.

We all beamed as Maggie started singing 'Can't Help Falling In Love' by Elvis Presley. I could feel myself well with pride when she finished. Her voice was so beautiful, it makes me melt. Everyone cheered and I heard a couple of flirtatious whistles come her way.

After that, some brave kids sang some hits on stage, did some ungodly "talents" for the crowd to witness. Finally after a while, it was time for the last performance.
"Okay kiddies! Now's the time you've all been waiting for! This song was written by the lovely Magnolia Jones, and now you will all witness Maggie and the greaser girls perform 'Mama I'm A Greaser'!"

Maggie, Val, and some other greasy girls came on stage wearing leather jackets, with the word 'Grease' printed on the backs, white t-shirts, converse, and jeans. They had some heavy eye makeup and red lipstick on with their hair in red bandanas.

Maggie and Val was the lead singers, and the other four greasy girls were backup singers and dancers. The song was about greaser pride, and us. Me, Soda, Darry, Steve, Dally, Johnny, and Two-Bit. All of us greasers were up and dancing to the song. Even the hoods.

Everything went by real fast, and suddenly I was dancing to a slow song with Maggie. Valerie and Soda were running off to an empty part of the gym to start some things with each other. It was hard to not laugh, watching them kiss and get all freaky. But I mostly looked at Maggie and how beautiful she was. Man, I love her. I can't say it enough. It was a great night. By the time we got home, we were so tired, we slept in our outfits.
