Today is the day - today is Christmas Eve. You and Gohan decided to go over to see his family on Christmas Eve and stay over to celebrate Christmas day. He told you that his mother planned on going all out and cooking a large meal for everyone. Especially being told that her son was going to bring over his girlfriend of over two years.
"Yeah, I told my mom I was going to bring home my girlfriend and she was thrilled. She's very excited to meet you."
You two decided to take the train for about half of the trip and would fly the rest of the way.
"She is!? I'm really nervous to meet her. You made her sound like she's a very stern mom."
"She is a very stern mom but she's all about having a big family. She's probably going to ask when we're moving in together, getting married and giving her grandkids. Now that I think of it, my dad might just ask about the grandkids."
"Oh my..." Hearing him say that started making your heart race a million miles a second. Getting married? Having children? You just want to finish college and find a job that will pay you well enough to make a solid living. You're honestly still not sure what exactly you want to do for a career. You remember meeting people who knew exactly what they wanted to do for the rest of their lives and you wanted to know how they figured things out so early on. You keep having in mind that you have your entire life to figure things out but most around you keep making you feel otherwise.
Well, at least it's the holidays and you can keep your mind occupied with holiday spirit and keep your belly full of holiday food.
You checked the weather yesterday and saw that it wasn't going to snow on Christmas Eve. Neither on Christmas day sadly. Maybe you could hope for a Christmas miracle? Since it wasn't going to snow, you decided you could take up most of the day to finish packing and could head over to Gohan's house at night. Gohan came to pick you up from you place and you two made your way over to the train station. The train arrived as soon as you two got to the station.
Being on the train was kind of nice because it was mostly empty. Most people were already where they needed to be for the holidays; most people were out of the city. Your head rested on Gohan's shoulder while his head rested a little on yours. You felt yourself smile until it was time to get off the train.
Getting off at the station, you realized that you've never been to the last stop on the this train. You never had a reason to. Everything was going to be a learning experience from here as Gohan was leading the way now. You knew you two would fly eventually but you wanted to enjoy and learn about the area.
"My house is still pretty far from here. You sure you don't want to fly yet?"
"I'm sure! I want to learn about what the route to your house looks like."
"Haha! Sure thing."
Looking up at the sky, the stars were beginning to look more bright the farther away you two were going. You didn't realize how far Gohan lived from you. Then again, he flies most of the time so distance isn't an issue for him. Gohan was now carrying your overnight bag. As nervous as you were about meeting his mother, you couldn't help but be excited about meeting his family.
Gohan made his family sound so nice. Nothing like your parents. Well, there were some very nice moments growing up. It wasn't until you were older that things started to change. Your mother and father started arguing more. They continued not to get along and somehow, someway, you got caught in the middle of things. It sucked. There was this one time when you were getting home that you can't forget. You were walking up to the main door of the house you used to share with your parents and you heard them arguing. All you wanted to do was hurry up the stairs and into your room. But that night, that didn't happen.
You weren't sure why it came to mind now but you remembered entering the house and only being able to make it to the first step when your mom picked up the lamp. You looked in her direction and knew it was going to end badly - just not as bad as it actually did. She threw it towards your dad but he was known for always having good reflexes. So, he ducked. Mom must have been really angry that night because she threw the lamp with all her might. After dad ducked, the lamp kept going and went straight for you. You didn't think to duck. The lamp hit you in the face and broke on impact. At that moment, you felt your face was becoming numb. You didn't want to touch your face. You didn't want your senses to register the blood you knew had to be there. You remember hitting the floor hard.
Your parents were so scared when they heard the thud. The scurried to call the ambulance. They didn't even care about having the tell the authorities what happened; they just wanted to make sure you got the medical attention you desperately needed that night. As everything was happening, you couldn't help but be stuck in your mind. The moment kept rewinding over and over. You wanted to figure out where things went wrong. Did they not love each other anymore? They clearly showed plenty of love for you that night. Of course, they felt terrible since you got severely hurt and having to deal with it being all their faults. Maybe - maybe if they at least tried to make things work? Maybe they were and nothing was working anymore? Things were too broken to piece back together?
You remembered laying there wishing to be somewhere else - hoping that it was all just a bad dream or at least a nightmare you knew you were going to wake up from. But, you weren't waking up. The blood was real. The pain was real. You were in so much pain that you couldn't even cry. You just laid there.
"Sweetheart?"
"Huh?..."
"Sweetheart? Are you alright? You're crying." Gohan said to you as he stopped walking which made you stop walking. He set your bag down and pulled you in to gently hug you. He rocked you a little back and forth. He wasn't sure what was going on. You weren't sure how you got to where you were but you were. You made the man you love feel concerned for you. You're worried. You're worried about him meeting your family; the family that accidentally yet severely hurt you in more ways than one. You knew the atmosphere was going to be thick in that house.
So much has happened.
Your eyes continued to spill as you started dreading the thought of going back to that house.
"Gohan I'm not ready!"
"Not ready to meet my family?!"
"Not ready for you to meet my family!"
