"Can we move to a different apartment building?" Michael huffed, dragging his suitcase up the thirteenth and last flight of stairs. "Maybe one with an elevator?"
"Or you could stop whining?" I suggested casually, a chorus of 'ohh's coming from the others. "We're here now, anyway." I hauled my own suitcase up the last step and wheeled it down the long hallway to the apartment right at the end. "Home." I breathed, taking out my keys.
I put the key in and tried to unlock the door but it wouldn't turn, so I tried again and again. Still no luck.
"What's taking so long?" Calum complained, stamping his feet.
"The door isn't unlocking!" I got frustrated and ripped my key out of the door, hitting the handle in the process. It clicked and swung open. "Who was the last one out of the apartment when we left?" I asked quietly.
"Why?"
"Because they left the fucking door unlocked," I ran in, checking to see if anything had been taken. That's when the figure of a sleeping woman came into view on the couch. "Mali!"
I laughed as she shot up, looking extremely tired. "Mali!" Calum screamed, running at his sister like he hadn't seen her in five years.
"Hey!" She laughed at Calum and hugged him back. "How's my favourite little bro?"
"I'm great," He smiled. "Tired, but still great." They let go of each other and Mali hugged each of us tightly, welcoming us all back.
"I swear to god I was about to attack you!" I laughed, pointing to the front door. "I thought someone had broken in!"
"Well it's a good job you didn't," She teased, nudging me with her elbow.
"Not that it isn't really great to see you, but how come you're here?" Calum asked, falling onto the couch. "Everyone was going to meet up tomorrow, when we'd had some sleep."
"Well, I did want to come and see you guys early, but," Mali paused and turned to Luke, pointing a finger at his nose. "I heard the radio interview yesterday morning."
I laughed and closed my eyes, resting my hands on Mali's outstretched arm, pulling it away from Luke's face, "Its cool, we sorted it and it's forgotten. We are very much in a serious relationship." Luke strided over and put his hands protectively on my waist, pulling my body against his chest to echo my point.
Mali narrowed her eyes, but smiled eventually. "Alright, I'll see you all tomorrow then?"
"You absolutely will, our house at two?" Mali nodded at her brother, said goodbye to us all and left us to unpack and recharge.
"You've been warned now," Ashton laughed. "Mistreat her again and you won't just be facing the wrath of Mali Koa Hood."
"You guys are so embarrassing!" I groaned, hiding my face in Luke's chest.
"If you were with a guy that wasn't Luke and he pulled a stunt like today, he'd be in a world of shit," Michael said angrily. "I just get a little over protective of you sometimes, we all do, but I was your first friend in Australia, so-"
"Hey!" Calum protested. "I call bullshit! We were both friends with her."
"Well yeah, but I saw her in the hallway and that was the beginning of this beautiful friendship," Michael shrugged like it was obvious, and Calum seemed to accept his reason. "Anyway, I don't even know. I just feel obliged to look after you, and I know you'll start ranting about how women don't need to be looked after by men, and you're right! But I can't help it, even though you're only a week younger than me I feel responsible. You're the sister I never had."
