011| SUDDEN TRIP

"You can close your eyes to the things you don't want to see, but you can't close your heart to things you don't want to feel."
-Maddie-

"Thank you." The cashier smiles at me, handing me my order. I take a quick bow and slowly went back to my seat. I smile as I plop down on the cafe's sofa. I pull my hoodie closer to me so as not to feel so cold. My frozen fingers were now thawed thanks to the warm coffee.

It has been a week since the two's announcement and I felt better. Sure, I may not be able to accept it fully yet but at least I am learning how to. It"s hard to just give up on someone you like a lot.

"Hey, can you pass me the coffee." Tyler says, pointing at the steaming mug. I hand him the coffee as I stare at my phone. Of course what's better than drinking coffee while reading books? Especially fan fictions.

"What are you reading?" He asks, causing me to jolt up in surprise and spill some of the coffee. Thankfully, none of us got wet. I grab a tissue and wiped the mess. "Sorry." I smiled at him sheepishly. He shrugs it off, wiping the remains of the coffee.

He scoots closer to me, staring at my phone. "Don't read." I mutter, inching away from him. I was afraid that he'd see what I was reading because...just because.

He smirks and and props an elbow on the table. "You know what? I think it'll be more fun looking at your photos." Before I could protest, he snatched the phone out of my hands. I let out a loud gasp as I struggled to grab it back. Curse my lack of height.

"Hmm, let's see." He mutters as he scrolls through my photos. I tried to grab it but my actions were futile. Eventually, I gave up and allowed him to look at my pictures. I was lucky I deleted most of my face memes.

"You sure do love food." He comments, scrolling through multiple selfies of myself with food. Finally, I successfully grabbed my phone and quickly shoved it in my pocket. "Of course." I mutter.

"Food is life." I huffed. He chuckles at my reaction.

"Whatever you say missy." He shrugs his shoulders as he takes another sip of his coffee. His eyes close in satisfaction and he lets out a small smile. Then, he made a face which looked pretty interesting. I shake my head as I laugh at his antics. That weirdo. I thought to myself as I took a sip of my drink. I wish I could've taken a photo.

Suddenly, my phone rang. "Excuse me for a moment." I stood up and walked to a excluded area.

"Hello?" I ask. "Hello ma'am. Your secretary speaking." The voice from the other lines says. "Hello Helen, how are you?" I ask. "I am alright ma'am..." She answered after a moment of silence.

I knew she was lying. She'd usually answer right away.

"Oh, what is the matter?" I ask. Hopefully, she's okay. "Something big came up." She continues. "Of course, please do share." I urge her. I can hear her sigh from the other line.

"There is a contract signing by the end of this week." She finally answers. I furrow my eyebrow in confusion. "Well then, that is great." I smile.

"Ma'am, it is with the company ACE." She squeaks.  I felt my heart clench as I remembered Ren. Maddie, get a hold of yourself . "Isn't this a good thing?" I ask, ignoring the small aching feeling in my chest. "Well yes but..." She hesitated a bit.

"Tell me, Helen." I told her. She gulps, pausing hesitantly. "Well, do you recall the company Iworks? The company that we've been working with for a while now?" She asks, as if contemplating whether to tell me or not.

"Yes?"

"Well, they've offered another project that could possibly increase our popularity. The thing is, you'll have to fly there to work and it might take a while." She says slowly. "How long?" I queried. "A week or two?"

Silence.

"A month?" I push, trying to get an answer. "Two months..?"

She's hesitating.

Finally, I hear her clear her throat. "Not quite ma'am..It may take years." My eyes widened in shock. I felt my heart drop to my stomach. "W-what?" I sputter, trying to let the news sink in. I hear her let out a sigh, as her voice returns to it's professional state.

"You'll be staying there for the meantime so please do make London your second home."
