027| I MISSED YOU
"Say it before you run out of time. Say it before it is too late. Say what you are feeling. Waiting is a mistake."
-Maddie-"Thank you for arriving to this meeting, Ms. Madilyn and Mr. Tyler. We appreciate your hard work today." The contractor smiles widely, offering his hand to shake after shaking Tyler's. I smile widely, shaking his hand quite vigorously.
I was very happy with the outcome of the meeting. Everything went smoothly and they were very cooperative. In short, it was a success. Tyler was very proud of me. He was silently cheering on me whenever I would say something that sounds smart. Some of the ladies near him with coo softly at his cute gestures. I would be lying if I said I wasn't internally doing the same thing.
But when it was his turn, he was able to speak with confidence. He easily gained the favor of the contractors using his wit and intelligence.
Anyway, the company's representative informed me, stating that I may leave London since they think I will be able to handle it well from my own country, which was great since I already miss my friends and family. I get homesick really quick so it was a huge relief knowing that I wouldn't have to stay far from them for long.
"When do you want to leave?" Tyler asks lightly as he walks next to me. He was sipping on his drink while staring at me. "Hm, maybe a day after?" I answer smiling at him. His lips curl up into a smile as he pats my back soothingly. He mumbles a small 'cute' before looking away. The tips of his ears were pink and I could see him smiling widely.
We continue to walk down the busy street. The trees were almost bare as the ground was scattered with yellow and orange leaves. Several mothers were sipping pumpkin spice, chatting occasionally as they watch over their children playing at the nearby park.
The scent of cinnamon and nutmeg wafts in the air as we pass by a nearby bakery. Freshly out of the oven, pies and cookies were brought out to be displayed on the counter. I really wanted to buy some but I promised Tyler that we would get pancakes.
After a while, we walk inside a small shop, hoping to eat a few bites for breakfast. But unfortunately, there were a lot of people huddled up in front of a TV so it was hard to pass through. I was going to turn and leave when Tyler grabs my arm.
"Hey Maddie. Isn't that Ren?" He asks, his eyes widening as he stares at the screen. I whip my head towards the huge TV and froze.
Playing on the screen was Ren rejecting Amy. He quickly left the place without turning back once. Surprise was an understatement. Everyone was shocked at the groom's departure, especially all the guests. The press were seen scampering out of the place and guests were freaking out. Soon, the whole place was a mess. Amy was sobbing, mascara smudging the bottom of her eyes. The news reporters attacked and bombarded both families with questions. The preacher stood still and frozen on his spot, still trying to process what was happening.
Everyone's eyes were glued on the screen and all had their mouths wide open. I was beyond confused. Why did he space out so suddenly? Why did he just leave Amy? Furthermore, why did he say no? The last time I saw them, they both looked so in love.
As if on cue, my phone vibrates multiple times, signaling an incoming call. I pick up without checking the caller ID. "Hello?" There were loud shuffling noises and muffled voices can be heard as well. I was going to end the call when a familiar voice cuts in loudly. "Maddie! Ren is coming for you!" Capella's voices rings in my ears. Ren coming for me? Pft as if. "You are joking huh? Good one. You got me." I chuckle in amusement. I was giggling until I heard my friends grow quiet.
Capella lets out a frustrated groan and sighs out loud. I could imagine her rolling her eyes and rubbing her temples. "He just called. This isn't a joke. He said he was flying to freaking London." She mutters.
When I finally let their words sink in, my eyes grew wide. That's when I started to freak out. Oh shoot. I actually thought they were kidding. "When is he coming? How does he know I'm here?" I ask hurriedly, grabbing Tyler's hand. He looks at me with a hint of concern in his eyes. "Now. He's on a plane to London. Also, I don't know how. Did you tell him?" Valery asks.
I paused for a while. Then, a flashback of me writing the letter came into my mind. Oh yeah....I did. I mentally face palm at my stupidity. "You did, didn't you?" Leah sighs out loud. I nervously laugh before saying a quick 'bye'. I end the call and immediately texted my secretary to ship my luggage back home and to book a flight for Tyler and I.
She responds quickly and sent me my tickets. She told me that I could just show them the picture of it to the staff and they'll let me go ahead. The flight will be at 5:00 pm local time. I let out a long sigh as I tug on Tyler's arm.
"What's wrong?" Tyler questions me as we stop to hail a taxi. He rose one of his eyebrows and flashed me worried look.
I couldn't tell him that it was because of Ren so instead I lied. "We have to head back. My goldfish Amber died." I say, avoiding eye contact. Although I wan't looking at him, I could tell he is suspecting something. He quietly stood there, his gaze never leaving me. I cough awkwardly and waved my hand in the air. Luckily, a taxi stopped right in front of us.
I let out a sigh of relief as I told the driver to take us to the airport. The drive there was quite fast considering the amount of traffic we had to go through. Tapping my fingers on my lap, I stare at my watch.
As soon as the car stopped, I quickly paid and dashed out of the car. Tyler leads and talks to the staff regarding our tickets. He borrows my phone and showed them a picture of the tickets that my secretary purchased from the official website. He told them that we booked the flight online.
There was a moment of silence. The staff stared at the both if us then nodded. It was a good thing that we had our passports with us. Since they found nothing wrong. we were able to go through the entire process quickly.
"What time is our flight?" Tyler asks, running his free hand through his hair. He checks his watch and then shifts his gaze back at me. "5:00." I answer. Without another word, he grabs me by the hand and leads me to the gate.
We were both about to head in when I heard someone calling my name. I turn back and my eyes immediately widens as my heart twists in pain.
I wanted to run away but my body wouldn't move. My feet were planted on the ground and I can hear my heart thundering against my chest. Ren stops just a few feet in front of me. His gaze locks with mine. I felt my knees go weak as I tried my best not to lose my balance. After all these years and he still has this effect on me. I tried to tear my gaze away. But before I could take Tyler's hand and leave, he walked over to me and hugged me tightly.
I can feel his warmth radiating off him as he hugs me tighter. He shakes a little, his tears slowly dropping on my blazer. He sniffles lightly and clutches my sleeves. He whimpers as his tears continue to fall. Seeing him in this state made my heart ache. I was tempted to pat his head and comfort him. But I was too stunned to even move. I felt my face heat up as he mutters these three words.
"I've missed you."
