39| PRETTY PINK PRINCESS
"I wish I could ask you what you think of me."
-3rd person-"So let me get this straight. She actually—" Leah gets cut off by Maddie's groan. "Yes, she did." She mutters, covering her flushed face with her arms. She recalls how the old couple was swooning over the both of them, comparing them to their younger selves. 'This young man is keeper! Don't lose him!' They both chuckle. The lady winks at Ren before turning away. She lets out a shaky breath. Her heartbeat increases as her thoughts drifts to Ren, who's face was so close to hers.
She slumps over, slapping her red cheeks as she tells herself to stop thinking about it. If she only hadn't ask him to grab the turkey. But then again, she couldn't have reached it without his help. "You're lucky I'm your best friend." She says as she hands her the pack of lunchables. Leah grins widely as she takes it from her.
"I know. I know."
"I wish I could stay longer but" Leah says as she checks her watch. "I need to go babysitting." She stuffs the pack into her bag and grabs her purse. Maddie immediately latches unto Leah's arm, restricting her from any form of movement. Hugging her like a koala would on a tree, she refuses to let go. "Girl, what do you think you're doing?" Leah exclaims, eyes widening.
"Not letting you go obviously." She says, "I don't want you to leave me here alone~" She looks up at her friend with puppy dog eyes. Leah shakes her head as she pries her off. "Maddie, I really need to go!" She successfully gets out of Maddie's grasp.
"But it's scary here."
"Dude, you live here everyday." Silence. "Yeah but—"
"No buts. Besides, I don't want to go third wheeling." "Wait what do you mean third wheeling?" Madilyn asks, confused. "You'll know soon." Before a retort can escape her lips, the said friend was already out the front door, only popping her head back in to give a playful wave before slipping out and shutting the door.
Maddie wanted to internally scream, but when she realized she was at home anyway, she grabs a pillow and screams into it.
"I am staying in alone, without anyone, except for kiwi to keep me company." She mumbles, heaving kiwi on her lap. Kiwi scratches her arm and jumps off. Holding the spot where he had scratched, she winces. "Now that makes no one."
As if on cue, her doorbell rings. Maddie knew it. Her best friend couldn't leave her alone like that. A smile dances on her lips as she walks to the door. Opening the door wide, she prepares to engulf her friend in a hug.
"I guessed you missed me so—"
She couldn't finish her sentence when she saw it wasn't actually Leah standing there but Ren. He stared at her, an amused smile on his face. She awkwardly retreats her hands, chuckling. Her cheeks were flaming up.
"Uh, hi."
She gives him a small wave. He chuckles, before clearing his throat. "Hey, Leah told me that you had no company today since your friends were out so I came here with some stuff to keep you busy with." Ren lifts up the bag of games and snacks up for her to see. "Would it be okay if I spend the day with you?"
"Sure! I'd spend to love you. I mean, I'd love to spend time with you." She stammers, internally face palming herself. She holds out an arm, gesturing for him to come in.
He smiles as he walks in. Damn maddie! Stop embarrassing yourself. She sighs before closing the door behind them. The soft sound of their feet hitting the ground as they walk can be heard as she led him to the living room. "Please do make yourself at home."
She walks over to the minibar and crouches down. "Would you like any drinks?" She asks, scanning through the items. "Water is fine."
Ren looks around as he places the bag on the coffee table. "I like the design of your house." He compliments. The cream colored walls were decorated with small frames with inspirational quotes and there were plenty of plants here and there. Most of the room's aesthetic is mainly pastel but there was a hint of vintage too.
"Thank you." She smiles before handing him the drink. He mimicks her actions before taking it from her. She felt their fingers brush, sending a shiver up her spine. Snap out of it maddie.
"So, have you ever heard of Mario kart?" Ren asks, connecting the nintendo switch to the TV. Maddie's eyes sparkled in happiness, pure excitement painted on her face as she nodded her head 'yes'.
"I'm great at it." She smiles as she positions herself comfortably. "How well can you play this?" He asks, handing her a controller. She sticks out her tongue and gives him a slight wink. "You'll just have to find out."
"Let's bet. Who ever wins gets to make the other person do whatever they want for a whole month."Ren smirks. "But we aren't that close yet." She states, quirking an eyebrow. "Well maybe hanging out more can make us closer." He grins, nudging her arm. "You still up for it?"
Instead of getting nervous, Maddie simply holds out a hand to show she's up for it. "Deal." They both shake hands before going back to their controllers. Moving the joystick, Maddie chooses Villager. Ren soon catches up and chooses Princess Peach.
Maddie looks at Ren. "What? Peach is my bitc—"
"Language!" She gasps, playfully smacking his arm. He laughs before turning his attention to the screen. "You ready?" He asks, clicking on the place where they will be racing.
"Watch me kick your pretty pink princess's butt."
