037| SMALL GESTURES
"You are cute and I'm pretty, I think we'd make a pretty cute couple."
-3rd person-"I'm so happy for you, Pella!" I say, my grin growing wider. She had a huge smile on her face, her cheeks a flushed a small hint of pink.
It has been a few weeks since Tyler and I have parted ways. We never really met up or talk as much as we used to. If I'm being honest, I feel bad but at the same time, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I really wanted to be honest with him but I couldn't bring myself to tell him that we should break off.
It was a bit awkward at first, both of us only exchanging 'hi's and 'hello's. But at least now, the awkwardness has eased a bit. Just a wee bit.
"I still can't believe it though...." Capella trails off, cupping her face with her hands as she averts her gaze on the table.
"Am I dreaming?"
She then looks at me, a smile still etched on her face. I smile, patting her arm. "Of course you aren't. Shawn really asked you to be his girlfriend."
"Congratulations to your first relationship." I say, smiling widely as I nudged her, wiggling my brows. "Before you know it, you'll be walking down the aisle." I wipe a fake tear from the corner of my eye, mocking a sniffle. "You grow up so fast." I feign a sob.
"Hey~" She playfully punches me on the arm. "I'd like to you watch you walk down the aisle first."
We both let out a hearty laugh.
"As if that'll happen." I say, jokingly rolling my eyes and sticking out my tongue. She gives me a sly smile, her eyes squinting as she does so. "I'm pretty sure it'll happen. I mean, I still ship you and Ren. Who knows? Maybe one fateful day, you both will end up with each other, going out dates, walking side by side wearing cute couple shirts or something. Then next thing you know, bam! You'd be married and have three kids."
"And—Oh look! Speaking of the devil..." She trails off, a smug grin painting her features as she pointed behind me.
I turn around to see Shawn and Ren walking into the cafe. Shawn was evidently scanning the place to find somewhere to sit while Ren stood behind him. Our gazes met for a split second as I averted my eyes from his piercing ones.
I whip my head back, facing Capella as I casually try to hide behind the menu, attempting to pretend to read whatever's written on it. My heart was pounding against my chest and my cheeks were starting to grow warm. I could only pray that Shawn wouldn't spot Capella or I'll be screwed.
Please don't see us, please don't see us, please don't see us, please don't—
"Oh, Capella! You're here."
Shoot...
Well, that's great, what a great time to be alive.
"Hey Maddie, long time no see." I hear Shawn's loud voice echo. I peer up from the menu, nervously chuckling as I mumble a small 'hi'. "Here sit," Capella says, pointing to the banquette she was sitting in before standing up to sit in mine. "Thanks." Shawn says, flashing her a smile.
"You don't mind if Ren joins us, right?" He asks, propping his hand on the table. He looks at me then Capella. I put the menu down, shaking my head 'no'.
As if on cue, Ren walks to our table, holding two drinks. From the corner of my eye, I could see him pause momentarily before sitting in front of me. He hands Shawn his drink before sipping on his own.
"So, why are you here today?" Shawn asks Capella, genuinely curious. He tilts his head a bit. Normally, Capella would either stay at home and binge watch her favorite series or go out and hit the gym. "Well, I came here to, uhm, get some coffee with Maddie." She says, glancing at me. I bit back a smile and nod. I knew she didn't want to tell Shawn that she came here to tell me that he had asked her out.
The two started to talk about their plans for the day. In contrary to the two, Ren and I sat there quietly. I was nervous, to say the least. I trace random shapes on the surface of the table, hoping to distract myself. I take a glance at Ren to find him looking at me. Our eyes locked once more.
He looks away, cheeks turning flushed and ears red. I could see his eyes moving around the room, looking at everywhere but me. He clears his throat, before looking at me again.
I crack a small smile at his flustered antics, shyly looking at him. I found it quite adorable. He sends me a small smile then waves at me.
We both ended up laughing at our awkwardness, capturing the two's attention. They looked at the both of us confused, probably wondering why we were laughing and wondering what was funny.
I don't know what's funny either.
