"I swear to God if you kill me, I'll kill you." August mutters through gritted teeth.
"That works for me." Devin buckles his seat belt, sinking into the soft seat.August turns the engine on and they make their way to St. Markindale. "How did you even end up here if you live in Crail?" She interrupts the silence while looking at Devin in the corner of her eye.
"I don't live in Crail, my parents do. I don't own a house or anything, I like to travel and stay in motels every night, fun right? I was robbed and lost all my money and then I found you." He grins only making August frown.
"Why haven't you call the police?" She questions.
"I just haven't gotten the chance. This only happened like a day ago." He shrugs."What are the chances." She mutters to herself. "Hey are you hungry? We can find a breakfast place if you want." She requests mainly because she was hungry herself.
"I thought you you'd never ask." He smirks. They arrive at a small breakfast café called 'Muffins'.
"How come you're by yourself?" Devin speaks, shoving a some pancakes into his mouth
"I didn't have anyone to bring, I don't have family." She replies, fiddling with her fork."You live alone? With this condition?" He glares back at her with concern.
"I have Olivia, my room mate. She's nice." August shrugs, nothing more to say about her.
"You don't talk so good about her." He chuckles."I just think she's had enough of me. It's a pain trying to look after me and all my wounds. She's probably glad I'm not home." She continues to eat.
"I'm sure that's not true." Devin smiles at her, August returning one back.•••
When they finished they set out onto the road again, finally reaching the main road.
An enormous ache emerged in Augusts right thigh, she lets out a scream. "August! Are you okay?" Devin turns to face her.
She immediately moves the car to the side of the road and turns off the engine."Devin, Devin!" She holds her hand over the middle of her thigh and reviles a pool of blood staining her jeans.
"Oh my God. What do I do?" He yells, not taking his eyes off her, now stained in blood, jeans.Without another word she quickly pulls them off to uncover a hole in her leg, as if she was stabbed. "Oh my God! This has never happened before!" She panics groaning in pain. "In my bag I've packed bandages and cleaning supplies, get them!" She screams at Devin. He reaches the back seat and grabs her bag, pulling out a medium sized bottle of chloroxylenol and some paper towels.
He pours the liquid onto the towel then places it on her thigh, making her bellow in agony. "August, it's ok calm down." He strokes her arm, trying to calm her down but to no avail, she starts to whimper in pain as he cleans the wound up.
Once he stops the bleeding, he pulls out a roll out bandage and attempted to roll it around her thigh. "I need you to lift your leg up, August." He cooed In her ear, not wanting to stress her out even more. She did as asked. He wraps the bandage around her leg.
"I'm done. is that better, August?" He asked, maintaining his calm tone. She could only nod in response as tears began to roll down her face. "Im going to drive now, okay?" He informed her while opening his door. He came to August's side from the other door and picked her up bridal style and put her in the passenger seat.
"Now, I want you to imagine how that would have went down if I wasn't here." He smirks, trying to lighten the mood.
Luckily her long shirt covered up most of her thigh.
They set off to the hospital once again.
"Don't you think you should go to a closer hospital for that?" Devin looks down at her bandaged thigh.
"No, they would probably think I'm crazy for saying that it appeared out of nowhere or they would think that you did it." She grinned."Stuff like that's never happened before? Only cuts and bruises?" He questions curiously.
"Yeah, it felt like someone stabbed me, thankfully it wasn't that deep." She sighs, her thigh still throbbing in pain.
"Interesting." He mutters to himself.August eventually fell asleep, leaving Devin to drive.
The car comes to a holt at the side of the road, they were no longer on the highway. August wakes up and sees Devin outside of the car on his phone. He looks back at her then hangs up. He takes long strides back to the car.
"Who were you on the phone to?" August yawns, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"It was just my dad, I told him that I'd drive you to the Hospital first then I'll get you to drive me home, if that's alright." He smiles down at her tired eyes."Yeah, that's fine. How much longer?" She asks, realising the sun was setting into the horizon.
"About half an hour." He grins, turning the engine back on. "What do you expect them to say?" He keeps his eyes on the road.
"Honestly, I don't know. I just want things to be clearer, I want things to make sense because right now, nothing does." The sigh that came out of her mouth made the car fall into silence once more. "What are your parents like?" She quarrels, changing the subject and breaking the silence."I think you'd like them. They love meeting new people." He smirks, August smiles back.
"My parents hated people." She laughs dryly. "The thing that I don't mind about my scars are the fact that they give me purpose." She gazed at the now darkened clouds out her window. "They give me something to question, they give me a reason to live. But if I didn't have them, I would have my parents."The car comes to a final stop. "We're here." Devin puts on a smile for August as they hop out the car.
