"Listen up everyone. There's about to be a blackout in 20 minutes. Louisiana is going dark. I need the EMD generator to be active within 5 minutes so it could power up the rooms. The main generator to be connected to the NICU and ensure that room 122, 134 and 255 are all connected to the backup generator please. Get to it." he spoke and the men started working on it while the nurses went to check on every patient.
The news had reported that all of Louisiana will undergo a major blackout due to a power outage and nobody knows what time it will be over. Since Promise hospital were one of the top hospitals in Louisiana, they had to ensure that they had generators for this kind of event.
"Sir we're out of gasoline to start up the back up generator."
"What happen to diesel?"
"We're out."
"And we're out of liquid propane too? And propane gas?"
"Sir the funds we have couldn't cover for the gases."
"I'm sure we have natural gas."
"We do but it's not enough."
"Use it."
"Sir we have no idea how long it can serve or how long the blackout is gonna be. We can't risk it."
"You listen to me. There is a thirteen year old boy fighting for his life and his mother trust in me. Use. That. Gas." he pointed in his chest.
"Yes sir." he looked at him before walking away.
Desirey stood at the side in nervousness since she was eavesdropping. She couldn't allow Jacion's room to go without power.
"Hey, are you at work?"
"Yeah shorty, watchu need?"
"A tank of propane."
"What you need that for?"
"Just bring it. It's important. Please." she begged.
He sighed before replying. "Which one you need?"
"Liquid propane or propane gas."
"I'll be there in 20."
"Dom i don't have 20 minutes. The blackout could take place any minute now." she panicked.
"Fine I'll be there as soon as i can."
"Thank you."
Desirey hung up and watched as nurses and doctors scattered the halls and ran from room to room. She hurriedly went to check on all the babies in NICU but mainly Jaimee's. Once they were all okay, she went into Jacion's room even though she wasn't allowed anymore.
She noticed that he was sweating and checked his vitals that were getting low.
"Oh no no no." she panicked and check his pulse again.
The lights were flickering and the room temperature was changing. She opened the window and began fanning him so he could atleast cool down.
"What are you doing in here?"
"Sir his vitals are dropping by the second. We need to get that generator running!!" she yelled at him.
"Desirey we cannot get it started as yet. There's not enough gas and we cannot risk it. If we start the generator, it will shut down midway on him and... his life will be on the line."
"Start it up." she told him.
"No!! I can't do that!!" he yelled at her while adjusting the machine.
