Chapter Six- Part One
Im trying a different point of view today :) yay.
Abels POV.
As the Death Eaters retreated into the forest and the rain began to stop I realized Mukaylen was nowhere in sight.
"Nathaniel! Where's M-kay?" I shouted.
"I don't know. She was just here." He worried. We waited for a moment confused on how she had disappeared. I was so distracted during the fight I hadn't been watching her. Fearing one of the Death Eaters had pulled her off into the trees I began looking. Pushing bushes and branches forcefully out of my way.
"Please God, let her be okay." Nathaniel whispered as he began stomping throught tall grass searching frantically. I feared I would find her dead body. Anger built up as I began blaming myself for being so careless. Why hadn't I watched her more closely?
"M-kay!?" Nathaniel shouted. There was no reply, only silence.
We looked for almost an hour when something caught our attention. It was the foot falls of a horse quickly approaching. Relief paralyzed my body for a moment but died when I saw it wasn't M-kay on Marcus but I woman I had never saw before. She had a small child hugged tightly to her chest, her stomach was swollen and pregnant, and blood and bruises wrapped around her pale body. I sense of dread swam in the pit of my stomach; something was terribly wrong. Nathaniel rushed forward his blonde hair flashing and helped the frail woman down.
"Whats going on?" Nathaniel asked.
The woman whos name we learned as Anna explained what had happened. Mentioning a heroic girl who saved her from the wrath of Emzor. At the mention of the Dark Ones name Nathaniels face darkened and I remembered him instantly. I gave Anna some of the suplies to clean her cuts with and a small knife for protection. I promised her I would be back. Soon after, Nathaniel and I mounted and raced in the direction Anna had came from.
We stopped at the signs of a struggle. Bernie was sprawled out on the grass at a odd angle unmoving. Blood stained the earth, dark and drying quickly. Mukaylens bow was tossed to the side along with the empty bag she kept her arrows in. Nathaniel slid from Marcus' back and crouched down to pick something out of the weeds. In his hand was a arrow. It was broke in half but blood was visible on the blade, alot of it.
"He has taken her." Nathaniel spoke, confirming what I had been silently already thinking.
"Im going after her." I said as rage clouded my mind.
"Not without me."
I covered Bernie with leafs, not having anything to dig a hole with for a proper burial. We began making our way back to the woman and her baby planning to help doctor her wounds and then rescue M-kay.
"I know where he will take her. He wants to make her his personal slave. He will have to have a ceremony in front of a crowd. It's his way of letting everyone know she's his and only his. The nearest city is McLoften. About a days ride from here." Nathaniel said.
I nodded my head in agreement. If she wasn't there I would search every town around until I had her back. When we came to the woman she was breast feeding the baby and we looked away modestly. When she was done and the baby was fast asleep I began disinfecting her cuts. I used the left over ointment I had stolen for M-kays foot. Her face was swollen but it would go down with time.
"Thank you. The girl--Mukaylen I mean-- said you would help me. I hardly believed her. I'm very thankful." Anna whispered.
"We were raised to do the right thing. It is no problem." I responded thinking back to all the times Mukaylen had gotten herself in trouble taking up for people who needed it. It made a small smile begin to form on my lips.
