Chapter Five****
I pushed Marcus to run faster. The rain had began to die down and had reduced to just tiny droplets. As I became just a couple of feet from the Death Eater it turned and snarled at me but never slowed down. I reached for my bag of arrows and cringed when I found it only had two arrows remaining. Once I could go back to Abel and Nathaniel I would need to retrieve the arrows from the dead or make more. I let go of the reins to Marcus, steering him in the right direction with the pressure of my legs the sound of his heavy breathing calming my frantic heart slightly. With my hands now free I pulled the bow back and carefully launched a arrow in the direction of the monster. It hit soundly into its back. It crumpled to the ground, its legs flopping in different directions. I pulled Marcus to a stop and jogged to the screaming baby still clutched tightly in the Death Eaters claws. As I reached for the baby the monster snapped its teeth at my hand. I stumbled backwards out of its reach. Not wanting to waste my last arrow on its dying body I reached for a large rock near my feet. I used it to finish off the suffering beast with heavy smashes sending sprays of blood splattering onto bright leafs. When it went completely still I pulled the bloody arrow from its back swiping it across my pant leg to rid of the black liquid before putting it back in the bag its head now a crushed blob smeared into the dirt.
I gently raised the baby into my arms shushing him with quiet whispers. He couldn't have been any older than ten months. His dark hair was thick but short and his tear filled eyes were a gorgeous blue. I smiled at his adorable face and rocked him back and forth to calm him down. A pathetic looking tatterd blue blanket was all he wore. It had small blood stains dotted along its soft material but the baby didn't appear to be hurt. Maybe it was its absent mothers blood I was seeing. I tightened the blancket around him and lifted us onto Marcus. I would take him back with me and Nathaniel and Abel would help me decide what to do with him.
The babies eyes began getting heavy as Marcus' slow swaying walk lulled him to sleep. As we continued on I heard a peircing sound erupt from the right of me. I held the baby closer to my chest feeling oddly protective of him. I wouldn't let anything happen to Little Blue. Little Blue being the nickname I had unconsciously started calling the little blue eyed fellow.
"Help me! Please, someone help!"
Marcus and I froze at the sound. It was the screams of a woman. They were terrifying and remarkably close to where I was. In hopes of it being Little Blues mother I dismounted quietly and wondered in the direction of the sound, still clutching a sleeping Blue to my chest. Bernie the German Sheppard wondered out of the woods to my left coming to sniff at the baby. Relieved to have some form of protection I layed Little Blue in a blanket of leafs hiddin under a canopy of vines. Bernie watched curiously as I hid the baby from sight. I turned toward him and pointed to Blue. He came forward curling his furry body securely around the innocent baby.
"Stay!" I told him in a whisper.
I turned away with guilt heavy in my chest for leaving the baby, even for just a moment. I continued on toward the screaming with my bow and arrows in hand. Bernie wouldn't let anything happen to the baby and I would return as fast as I could hopefully with Blue's mother. I wouldn't be able to fight for the womans life while holding her child in my arms.
The screams became louder as I came closer. I saw movement in the clearing just ahead. I crouched down hidden behind thick vegetation. What I saw gave me chills. My stomach lurked and flipped in disgust. There crouching in the over grown grass was a woman. Her arms were wrapped around her swollen pregnant belly protecting it from the punches a familiar Demon repeatedly threw at her body. I almost cried when I noticed it was Emzor the same Dark One that Nathaniel had saved me from. I knew how bad his punches hurt having taken one to the face not too long ago. His eyes glowed that vicious green and the snakes wrapped around him hissed in pleasure as he caused the woman pain. Emzor grabbed the small woman by medium length dark hair suspiciously the same color as the babies. She looked as if she were in her late twenties and she wore rags as clothing.
