I see concrete curbs, brick walls, tens of feet tall.
I see me running, soul knocked of breath, salt stinging eyes weeping,
People you don't know, people know it all, they see it all.
But the ground standing before them. The cracked pavement and the swinging trees,
Butterflies everywhere to be seen, punched in mailboxes lining the streets, loud voices occupying the space.
People won't see that. But they'll see you, earphones buzzing in your brain, licking chapped lips lacking a drink, a tasteless tongue sitting at the bottom of your mouth, endless voices in your head screaming, "More!"
I see trinkets of banned foods in the window sile, flashy windchimes, genuine smiles.
I haven't had one of those in a long time.
Muscles in your mouth are worn out from chewing and not smiling, no energy zips in your body anymore.
Faces become empty, scars more common, anger broiling on the stovetop inside.
How many more minutes till it explodes?
How many more moments until your feet fall off,
Your ankle twists and breaks. Osteoporosis.
Your heart clicks and stops. No more rapid heartbeat.
Your eyes still sting from the sweat falling down your face, you've sworn not to let it bother you.
Your face twists in agony as they stir the pot more
Your feet are battered & bruised, blistered & raw.
You finally fall to your knees and surrender to your god
He whispers into that tiny ear of yours... "More!"
You collapse onto the concrete curb, nobody finds you for weeks. Nobody sees the pavement ahead of them let alone a dead body.
----
Anger blows over like a heat wave
Over our heads it skims, past our awareness it lives
Like a cloud of radiation billowing from the nuclear plant down the street
Like the painfully dusted grey skies above
Filled with toxic waste of a society.
That's the air we breathe everyday,
Is one another's misery.
