Ryan: Chapter 5

Ryan was not happy. First of all, he had made friends in Daydream who he would miss. Second, he was the one who had been too afraid to speak. Third, they as a group were leaving the city to die voluntarily. Needless to say, he felt awful. And since he was the same age as Olivia, well, the older kids probably felt worse.

As he shouldered his pack and left his room, ready to leave, he thought about the situation. If the Reaper did attack Daydream, wasn't it possible it would eventually catch up to them, as well? What would they do then, if they were cornered by the army of demons that he saw?

Kyo came out of his room, also ready to leave. He saw Ryan and made eye contact with him, It's okay to be scared.

Yeah, but I feel awful just thinking about leaving Daydream unprotected. Ryan explained. It was true, no matter how many times they told him it was alright.

Look, even if you had said something earlier... I'm not sure how I know this, but I think Daydream would have been lost anyway.

How do you figure?

Kyo paused, as if phrasing his answer very carefully, People can be stubborn sometimes.

Therin came up behind Ryan and poked him, "Surprise! What are you two chattering about, your love lives?"

Kyo blushed and Ryan scoffed, "Like we could have any here. And besides, Kyo probably doesn't remember any girls."

"Fair enough, but I know you still like Aly."

Ryan was irritated, "Yeah, we were shipped, like, that one time, but that doesn't mean I like her."

Therin smiled, seemingly enjoying the banter, "And what about Olivia, huh? You guys spend a lot of time on missions together."

"I hope you don't mind, but back off. I've been through enough without you pestering me."

"Kyo seems to be enjoying it."

Ryan glanced over. Sure enough, though normally expressionless, the edgy mute was trying to cover a smile, though not very well, "Hey, who's side are you on?"

She's just trying to take your mind off of things. It's actually really nice of her.

Ryan blinked. He hadn't thought of it that way, but it was true, he really had been distracted for a moment there. Ryan was actually starting to appreciate his sister.

Therin frowned, walked right up to Kyo, and promptly pushed him, "Way to spoil it, Kyo. I just might have gotten him to 'fess up, but no, you had to go and tell him my ulterior motive."

They had a staring contest, Kyo's black eyes locked on her dark blue ones. Obviously, they were also holding a private argument, one to which Ryan wasn't invited. Eventually, Therin threw up her hands in defeat, "Fair enough, you win."

Sira, Dom, and Olivia simultaneously (more or less) walked into the room, Dom seeming particularly amused, "What's this all about?"

Nothing in particular.

Sira shrugged, "Fine, just wanted to know what all the yelling was about. Are we all ready to go?"

They all had a bag of sorts strapped to them. Therin was carrying less than everyone else, since she claimed she could grow her own food and shelter. Luckily, that meant no one else had to, but they had packed snacks for on the road as well.

Kyo began walking toward the door, Come on, then.

Dom rolled his eyes, "Tell me why we're letting the mute amnesiac who can't communicate with anyone else lead the way?"
