"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME." Abagail muttered under her breath as Daniel Harris sat beside her. His signature sunglasses were slid up on his head, his hair styled in a mess. His baby blue eyes stared at her - friendly. She wished her dark side came out - the one she and Caden were used to. But she couldn't around her mate.
He smelled like cherry's and a sour tang that sent her mouth watering. Making him bittersweet. She could practically taste him - it made her want to taste him.
"Hello." He greeted, sitting extremely close to her. He pressed their knees together. "Beta Abagail you are looking absolutely delicious today."
"I could almost say the same." She replied softly. Almost - because she wanted to taste.
"This is funny - isn't it? There aren't too many mates from out of packs. Does that make us special." He flirted, placing his hand in hers.
"You seem very practised at this." She muttered, eyeing him in both suspicion and hunger. Their mate bond danced between them - but she couldn't help but reject it. She wasn't ready to open up - didn't want to.
"I know what women want to hear." He grinned coyly. She ripped her hand from his. No matter how much she wanted to lean into his touch, to kiss him - to take that happily ever after. She knew they were two different people.
She was an emotional wreck.
And he was a douchebag.
"I don't think your pack would look highly upon your mate being... Northern." She soothed darkly. It wasn't a lie. There was no way she would leave her pack to be with him. She was a Beta for christ sake. And his pack were not to her standards. They killed rogues. Her pack inducted them. His pack would forever hate her - there was no place for her there.
"Seems that way." He hummed. "Funny, I didn't think my Alpha gets a say in who my mate was." His words were dangerous. Especially from someone who didn't really hold any sway with his own pack.
"My Alpha's do." She muttered, eyes going to Caden - whom she remembered she loved. She licked her lips. "I like someone else... anyway." Daniel went rigid beside her.
"I don't think so, mate." He muttered darkly, his hands gripping the desk. He leaned into her, her hair being swayed by his controlled breathing. She froze, his warm breath fanning her face. Shivering she didn't turn towards him while he brushed her hair to the side.
"I might even love him." She whispered. Her reality came crashing back down. She was an orphan. Caden knew her parents - that's why she wanted to be with him.
Her words made Daniel bite back a growl - his face going slightly red. "He won't ever have what I have." She bit the inside of her cheek. "Are you going to reject me?" Abagail froze.
Was she?
Or did she want Daniel - no she wanted Caden. She loved Caden. She wanted to kiss him and mate with him. Her best friend - the only man whe feels safe with. Mate or not she wanted Daniel... she froze mid thought - no. Mate or not she wanted Caden.
"I - I." She was lost for words. She wanted to be alone. Missing her parents was one thing - now some sort of love triangle? She gulped. "I don't know." Daniel actually smiled, brushing his nose against her cheek.
"Let me take you out - I can make up your mind." He whispered huskily, watching her eyes fidget nervously. She could only have confidence when Caden was around. Because that is who she was trying to be.
Daniel had just brought out the real Abagail.
