ABAGAIL hadn't planned on any of this, having to escape. She needed to climb her way out of herself. She had gone so far over the edge because of her parents death all those years ago. She had taken to hate instead of love. Sure she still loved Caden - her best friend, but nothing else. For years it had been her in her own thoughts - not even Caden could hear them.
Why she did what she did... She couldn't explain it. When everyone feared you - no one asked questions. They wouldn't ask her how her day was. Or why she seemed so cold. Especially not when sometimes she got so distant.
She stuck with Caden because he never asked. It didn't help that she served as his Beta. Long hours of having to be in the same room as him - it got a little constricting.
All those responsibilities weighing her down that she felt like she was drowning.
Normal. Why couldn't she just be normal?
Have a family. Be loved. Give love. She would never admit it aloud but it is what she craved. Craved like oxygen.
"Abagail shut the fuck up." Caden groaned, pushing his hand into her face. She stared at him - annoyed. She hadn't said anything.
"I wasn't talking." She muttered darkly at her future Alpha.
"Make them shut up." He pointed to the teacher who was discussing the topic with a group of her students.
"Remember what happened last time?" She muttered, picking at the table with a pair of scissors. "I got suspended for three weeks."
"You broke the projector." He laughed, tossing a pencil at a girl across the room. She glared at him, but he innocently pointed at the boy infront of him. The girl threw it back at the wrong kid.
"You're an asshole." She chuckled, slipping back into herself. Angry, rude, disappointing, selfish.
"I dare you to throw that kids drink bottle out the window." Abagail picked it up, tossing it straight out the window. The boy had a mouthfull of braces, something Abagail hadn't seen until he turned around.
"It was on my desk - so shut up." She spat, watching him ask to go to the toilet and retrieve his drink bottle.
"You're such a bitch." Caden mocked, throwing another pencil at the girl, pretending to be working when she pegged it at the kid sitting infront of him - again. "Anyway, what are we doing for your birthday today?"
"Nothing." Abagail spat, resting her chin on her fist. She didn't need a birthday - they were boring and it made her want her parents back even more. They would celebrate with her and she would have the time of her life. Even if she was ten at the time - she remembered everything with vivid accuracy.
"Abs - today is your eighteenth birthday. You are legally of age - and that means you can find you mate." Caden pressed a hand on the table, whispering to his friend. They didn't need any humans overhearing.
"Big whoop." She rolled her eyes. "I would rather choke on a dick then care about my birthday."
"Make sure nobody hears you." He grinned cockily.
"You're not that lucky." She bit her lip, turning away with slightly red cheeks. There was one thing she left out. She liked her best friend.
She almost loved him.
