I live in a world where, when a child is born when the mother first holds her child she can see the child's future it's a curse burdened to women since the year 2016, it was a science experiment at first but soon changed when a virus broke out throughout the world and only women were infected none of them died... But the virus had no cure it made you sick for maybe a week then you were better than ever, till you had your first child. It was all over the news how this happened mothers would kill their children seeing futures that were most likely bad, but things were different children were very rare and special. The curse was definitely a way to keep teenagers from having children but the thing is was I was one of the unfortunate children because when I was born my mother couldn’t see my future I was considered unique but people like me, were unpredictable the government follows your every move they hate us because we can either be a blessing or a curse it’s strange how this works.
“Andy are you listening to me?” I looked at my best friend blinking slightly shrugging putting my head on my desk.
“Nope sorry.” She rolled her pretty blue eyes obviously annoyed with me, Hailey wasn’t loud wasn’t obnoxious wasn’t rude; but she was brutally honest.
“What’s wrong with you lately Andy? You’ve been really out of it.” I looked around our classroom of around thirteen teenagers.
“Dad took off again mom’s not taking it well this time.”
“Ah, I’m sorry did you hear there’s a new guy being transferred here?” I shook my head and she smirked. “Of course not.” I rolled my eyes this time getting up stretching the bell rang a second ago and I had no joy in staying in this class longer than I’m required to.
“What is he like?” She stopped in the middle of the hallway grabbing my attention, she wanted to talk but not be overheard by everyone else.
“He’s like you,” I felt myself go rigid swearing. “It’s not a bad thing Andy! Don’t you think it’s lonely having just you here? Everyone knows everything about anyone except you be happy you were born without the future.” I glared at her.
“That also targets me Hailey, two kinds of people means double the guards double the security double the fucking check ups.” I hissed running a hand through my black hair.
“Listen I am not going to listen to your-.” Before she could get anything out I was being dragged out of the school and into a black van by a guy with a black suit on, well isn’t this a great way for rumors to get started.
“You could have warned me Mason.” I snapped folding my arms over my chest as they drove away from the school and towards the safe center.
“We didn’t mean to surprise you kiddo but if you haven’t heard there’s another reborn in the area, we called your mother already she’ going to be meeting us there in a minute.” When you think of the future like around 2213 there would be flying cars space ships and aliens? Well you're wrong, I’ve watched video’s from 2016 and under and it’s exactly the same the computers are a little more advanced though.
“If there is another person like me here why do I have to be dragged into the middle of it? Wouldn’t it be best that oh I don’t know keep us as far away as possible from each other?” Mason turned around in his seat staring at me, the side of his face carved up; I felt for him because when he was born his mother had seen a false future for him and was one of the many women who tried killing their child.
“You’ll be fine kid, he doesn’t look like he bites anyway just a regular bi-polar teenage boy.”
“Oh thanks that’s just great.” I muttered leaning back, at least I got to skip school the rest of the day.
“Hello Andy.” I smiled at the nice receptionist trying to be polite.
“Nice to see you too Melanie.” She nodded as the guards lead me to dun dun dun! The back room where I got to meet the new guy. “So what’s his name?” I asked Mason trying to distract myself.
“His name is Jace Mix.” I smiled slightly unique name for a unique person, I stopped right as we got to the door I have never in my life encountered someone much like myself; lucky for my mom I was one of the reborns who was a complete goody goody I wasn’t a bad kid I got good grades didn’t break the rules… Ok I occasionally smoked a cigarette here and there but that’s about it.
“Nervous?” I looked to the other guard and nodded he smirked and opened the door pushing me in the locking it behind me.
“Thanks!” I yelled rolling my eyes, the plain white walls seemed to bright and the table as well but the one thing that stood out to me was the boy wearing all black sitting at the table, I felt my mouth drop open slightly staring at him but the thing is how could I not? He had jet black hair that was untamed and bright blue eyes a leather jacket on and black jeans followed by converse.
“I’m guessing you must be Andy?” His voice was deep holy hell, he scanned me just like I had scanned him a small smile tugged at his lips as he got up. “I was expecting a guy.” I couldn’t speak it’s like my mouth was glued shut.
“Your Jace?” What in the hell?! Of course he’s Jace what is wrong with me, I’m normally perfectly fine talking to hot strangers… Just not this one.
“The one and only.” That smirk didn’t waver and it’s like he knew how uncomfortable I was.
“I-um.” He snickered coming closer to me and on instinct I back up.
“Why don’t you come sit down? You look like a awkward turtle standing there like that.” He offered his hand and I just stared at it. “Come on I don’t bite, that hard anyway.” I felt my face turn a bright red as I took his hand, he lead me to my seat then sat across from me leaning back in his chair.
“How old are you?” I asked trying not to be as awkward as I felt.
“I just turned 18 not to long ago, why are we here exactly? I was one moment in the hospital then the next moment I was here waiting for you.” That took me a second to process the word hospital lingering.
“This is where they take reborns for questioning like yourself and I but other than that I can’t really answer because they dragged me out of school to be here.” He nodded crossing his arms over his chest.
“What is a pretty girl like you doing without a boyfriend?” I felt myself tense slightly my cheeks probably the shade of a tomato.
“How do you know I don’t have one? I could possibly have a boyfriend.” He cocked an eyebrow and studied me again, this time I felt like I was under a microscope.
“Because if you had a boyfriend you would most likely have a hickey, you wouldn’t be so awkward around me you would have confidence and be casual. Instead of looking like a deer in headlights.” I sighed, how did this conversation go from reborns to me?
“I hear you’re going to be going to my school, watch out the girls are just going to go wild around you.” His eyes hardened but brushed it off with a shrug staring me down once again.
“You’re really cute you know that?” I could feel the blush rise. “Especially when you blush.” I glared at him getting up about to walk away, but before I could process what was happening my hazel eyes met his blue ones our faces inches apart.
“I’ll see you tomorrow Andy.” He let go of my wrist and I walked as fast as I could out of there Mason opening the door I bolted straight down the hall.
“Honey?” I looked at my mom as we drove home she looked good for a women whose emotions were all out of whack.
“Yea?” She smiled.
“So you met Jace? He’s attractive.” I groaned leaning my head one the car window.
“Yes mom…” I let the words hang and she snickered.
“He has those dreamy blue eyes that you could just swim in there so crystal blue-.”
“Mom! No we are not talking about how hot that guy is, I will admit that he called me cute-.”
“What! What did you say back? Are you two going to date? Am I going to have to start making wedding invitations.” I groaned as my mom teased me.
