KATHERINE'S POV
'Ugh. I finally finished cleaning this excessively large house and cooking an excessively large meal!' I thought to myself as I settled in the small space.
I felt stiff in the tiny closet I was hiding in, my body aching. I suddenly felt woozy as a wave of exhaustion hit me. Why does this place have to be so big?! There's no reason for it to be able to fit a million people if only one family lives here! It really gets on my nerves sometimes. There are a lot of people out there in the world who need shelter and here we are wasting land and resources that could save hundreds of people's lives. Also, the fact that I have to clean it all by myself is a bonus con. Why can't they have some helpers, not just me? The other kids could try to do some chores maybe. Like, I don't know, pick up their cr*p!
I have many words to describe these horrid creatures. Selfish, lazy, b*tchy, horrible, crude, awful. I could go on and on in describing them. Honestly, I can. It's not that hard. My parents and sister aren't very likable people. Sometimes I can't bring myself to hate them though, they were my family once upon a time. But I do hate what they do, but not them. Well.... maybe my sister. Hehe.
I heard my 'parents' say hello to the Alpha family. The family mostly goes out for their meals, a lot of the restaurants are owned by pack members, and are almost always not here because they have business to attend to somewhere else in another pack or something. I like to listen in on the conversation held at these meals because news about other packs and our own always get brought up.
I scanned the table, only to see my sister fixing her self. It disgusts me to know what my sister thinks about the Alpha boys though. I'm the only one to know what really goes through her head. She wishes to be the future Luna of the pack. Please, she can barely lead herself and make rational decisions , how much for a hundred people. She's clueless, and not the naive kind, no, I mean the stupid kind. The typical bimbo she is. You wanna know how I know her thoughts while she ogles them? I can read minds sometimes. Just little snippets here and there. Snippets can go a long way though. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. Especially with my sister, Brittany. Yup, it's torture to listen to her thoughts, they're very disturbing. I shuddered just thinking about them.
"Hey, Zander..." Brittany screeched, but I think it was supposed to be an excited squeal. One word. 'Disgusting.' I struggled to refrain from gagging but I managed to stay quiet the whole time. "Have you heard about the party?" The Alpha asked them.
"What party?" My older brother, Alex, asked.
"A party for all the packs to find their mates, it's the first one to be held in years! You and your family are invited, as you are the betas. It's a masquerade, I guess they felt it would give a more ominous feeling." The Luna stated. "Oh! And don't forget to invite the little one! I haven't seen her in years!"
My eyes widened with this and surprise took over me. One, the Luna acknowledged my existence in front of my parents and two, we never really had these kind of things before. But this could be a good thing. An opportunity perhaps... Yes! A chance to finally meet other wolves! I might have a shot of actually meeting someone that can get me out of here, like my mate! My mother looked at my father.
"Umm... Our third child will not be able to attend. She is very attentive in her studying... And wants to complete schooling early, so she wouldn't miss more pack activities while she's in college." My mother tried to come up with an excuse. My dad looked uncertain about the explanation, but kept quiet.
'What a liar.' I hissed in my mind. I will not let them hold me back from this party. It was a masquerade if I heard correctly. They wouldn't know if it was me if I were to run into them as long as I hide my scent. Determination quickly filled me as I continued to listen to their conversation.
"Oh, I don't have to go, I've already found my mate!" My sister exclaimed happily. My eyes bugged out, since when? The poor guy.
"Who?" My mom asked in surprise.
"Xander, him!" She pointed at him while screeching- I mean squealing. Xanders face widened with shock. The first time he actually showed emotion during the whole meal.
Xavier stood angrily, his chest heaving up and down, "No! I am not your mate!" You could practically feel the waves of anger coming from him. It was quite frightening.
"Are you rejecting me?" She pouted, almost nervously, like she was about to be caught doing something wrong.
"We aren't even mates in the first place! I've never felt the sparks, found your smell amazing, or even love it when you touch me! In fact, it actually feels revolting. So, just stay away and stop spreading lies!" And then he stormed out of the room in a rush. The air in the room was suffocating , even I felt suffocated.
Brittany laughed nervously, "He just doesn't want to make it official." She waved her hand dismissively. I rolled my eyes. As if.
Someone snapped at her, surprising us all. "Are you that desperate, Brittany!? He's not your mate, so leave him alone! Find your own mate and shut up!" It was my brother, Alex. Everyone stared at his brooding face. What crawled uo his butt and died? I decided to stop paying attention and ponder one something much more important...
So party, hey? I think this party might just get crashed...
