Ch. 17 Confession

XANDER'S POV

I watched my mate as she ate the waffles I've prepared for her. I felt strangely satisfied watching her eat something that I made. The fact that I could provide for her pleased me. When she set down her fork to take a swig of orange juice, I smiled. She is so cute.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Can't I just look at my mate?" I smirked.

"I guess. But you're kind of being creepy right now." She stared warily at me.

I shrugged and tapped her nose. "And you're just cute." I smiled as her face burned a shade of pink that made her all the more adorable.

She kept quiet after that and finished her meal in silence with me still watching her. When she was done, I placed everything we used in the sink and took her hand.

"Where are we going?" She looked up at me.

"We are going to the office to do something very important." I smiled gently at her as she nodded her head softly and followed.

When we enter red my office I felt her stuffed beside me and inch closer to my side. Noticing her reaction, my wolf instantly became alert and wary of the cause of my mate's discomfort. Her family. I guided my angel to the chair behind my desk. I sat down and looked at my mate expectantly, but she just looked confused and just stood there. I could help but let a small smile find a way onto my lips. She's so cute. I gently grabbed her wrist and and pulled down onto my lap. She gasped and her cheeks were tinted with pink and her eyes were wide with surprise.

Suppressing the urge to pinch her cheeks and smother her with kisses, I turned to her 'family', including my Beta. "I am sure you all know why you are here in my office today."

The supposed 'mother' of my mate smiled, " Why because you have taken my daughter as your mate, Young Alpha. Although I do have to warn you, she is a bit strange and rather weak. Not really Luna material if I do say so myself."

I raised my eyebrows. "Oh? And just who do you think is worthy of being my Luna?" I tightened my arms around my little angel, who has yet to utter a word.

"Well, Young Alpha, I do believe my older daughter would be a better fit." The mother smiled once again. Fake.

"And this older daughter you speak of, is it the one who is sitting to your  right?" I questioned her. When she nodded her head I couldn't help but chuckle. But the more I thought about it, the funnier it became. My chuckles turned into an icy laugh.

"If Brittany was damn great and worthy then explain how this girl in my arms right now, who you describe as strange and weak, managed to defeat Brittany in combat with little to no effort?" I smiled, but there was no ounce of warmth in it. I saw a shiver run down the women's spines.

"W-well... she caught my dear Brittany off guard. She's a cheater!"  I felt my mate tense up even more at her 'mothers' words.

"You're accusing your own daughter of being a cheater?" My head cocked to the side.

"I never said that Brittany was a cheater, I said that that mutt is!" She exploded, pointing to my angel.

Got her.

"So you don't consider this girl your daughter." The woman slapped a hand over her mouth, " I see how it is now."

"I-I mean... T-that girl is nothing compared to my Brittany! I-I mean, I am just looking out for the future of the pack and if that means disowning that mutt, then so be it!"

I felt my wolf growl at the blatant disrespect this pitiful she wolf was dishing my mate. My wolf tried pushing himself to the surface but I suppressed him, but allowing my canines to elongate, showing the sorry excuse of a family sitting in front of me a feral smile.

"Beta Ted, it seems as though your family has forgotten the ways of our pack. Familial bonds make up the fundamental institution of a pack. For a high ranking family, the Beta family at that, to disregard the pack's long term beliefs, what does that say about our pack? We are built on a society made up of laws and traditions, and your family has disregarded that."

I watched as my father's Beta lowered his head in shame while his mate and other daughter were practically seething.

"Are you saying that my family is a disgrace?!" Brittany's shrill voice cut through the air.

"What I am saying is that there have been generations of Betas before you all and I must say that yours may be the most disappointing." I snapped at the insolent girl.

"Young Alpha! My family is absolutely perfect!" The mother, Heather, defended.

I was getting seriously annoyed with how delirious these two women were. Before I could say anything else, a sound cut through the thick silence of the office. A laugh. And it was one of the most beautiful laughs I have ever heard in my life.

"Perfect? Did you seriously see how our 'family' as perfection?!" All of our eyes snapped to my best friend and future beta. He laughed humorlessly. "You call the neglect and abuse of an innocent child perfect? While her siblings were showered with love and affection, spoiled, and raised in all of the wrong ways?!" Alex's tone rose.

"Alex, son, calm down." His father tried to calm him.

"No! I am the future Beta if this pack and I will no longer keep silent! For years I have watched a tiny, vulnerable baby grow up into a teen girl without any parents, love, affection, and with no one to depend on. Instead, I watched her grow up with scars, marks, bruises, blood, sweat, and tears!" He cried out.

"Alex, darling-" Heather cooed but Alex was having none of it.

"No! It is time to reveal your dirty little secret, 'mother'," He spat the word out as if it were venom. "You and Brittany were always jealous of Katherine! You were afraid. Afraid of how great she would become while you two were left behind. And because of your insecurities, I had to watch a beautiful girl, my sister, grow up in an ugly world while she deserved the best things it had to offer! But I'm also to blame. I just let you two do whatever you wanted, but no more." He took a deep breath.

"You will no longer be able to lay a finger on my sister, on my Luna."
