Chapter Eight
"So, basically, we're screwed."
I glanced at Hades, wanting to tell him not to be so negative. He always had a habit of reverting to the acceptance of our failure. However, for once, I was finding it difficult to argue with him.
Things were looking pretty bleak at the moment.
Upon our arrival in Duat, sharing our report with Rowan and Yiuwa, they'd also given us the news that they had yet to find any tablets or information leading to the next one. We'd basically hit a brick wall and there was no way around, over, under, or through.
"Not necessarily," Rowan explained slowly, "We haven't found anything in the area we were looking in, but something tells me that we're on the right path. We're supposed to be in Duat."
"I get the same feeling too," Yiuwa agreed with a nod, leaning forward on the table, "But I can't think of where in Duat any tablets would be." Sept sat back, folding one leg over the other, his hand tapping on the glass of the table thoughtfully.
"And you've tried the Library?" He asked. Rowan nodded.
"We've searched high and low and nothing about tablets from another universe appear anywhere. It doesn't help that some of the information is lost," he admitted, making Sept narrow his eyes. He wasn't so much irritated by his comment as the fact that there was a reason a lot of the information was lost in the Library of Duat. They had given some of their stuff to the mortals for their own library that had been called the Library of Alexandria. Unfortunately, mortals being who they were, lost the information and there was no way to retrieve it.
For all we knew, the information we needed was probably lying at the bottom of a pile of rubble or even the sea. Who knew anymore?
"I can ask my father," Sept said after a moment, "He's been around for quite a long time and he's collected a lot of scrolls and books over the years. Maybe he'll have something that'll at least give us a head start on the search for this tablet." He stood up, excusing himself so he could go call his father. I watched him go, then glanced at Hades, who was glaring after him. I frowned, leaning forward on the table to block his view and he rolled his eyes.
"Hades," I started, making him throw his hands up in exasperation, "Don't give me that. I know it's hard, but Sept has a point. This doesn't involve you--"
"Theo is involved," Hades deadpanned, "Therefore, I am involved."
"It was a mutual decision--"
"Theo was fucking miserable because of that piece of fucking--"
"And Sept was miserable as well," I pointed out, making Hades scoff.
"Theo makes everyone miserable. It's not my fault if he was too much of a pussy to handle it--"
"That's entirely unfair and you know it," I scolded, making him glare at me, "I get it upsets you, but now isn't the time. Sept is doing his best to help us given the situation, which I'm sure isn't easy on him either. I'm not asking you to forgive him or pretend everything is hunky dory. I'm asking you to set it aside right now. For the fate of the universe, and Theo. Sept was right when he said Theo is doing better now. Even you can't deny that Theo's been much happier since he learned to do things on his own, and even more so since he met Adonis."
Hades said nothing now, clearly still peeved and not wanting to talk about it. He just sat with his arms folded over his chest, his eyes narrowed on the table where his glass of untouched juice sat, because why would he drink something served to him by his enemy? I sighed, sitting back in my seat and rubbing my temples.
