Chapter Fifteen

Numb. That's how I've felt since the funeral. I am so numb that Mac had to pack all of our bags because I couldn't even find the motivation to get out of the chair I was sitting in.

He had even carried all my luggage to the airport and onto the airplane. I'm extremely thankful for what he has done the past several days, but I can't find it in my voice to tell him. Nothing seems to work right.

I stare out my airplane window, as Mac reclines in his seat, ear phones in and his hand holding mine. I sigh, the first audible sound I've made in days.

I'm not ready to go home. I'm not ready to face my parents. And I'm definitely not ready to face Harrison.

It's about time Harrison and I ended it anyways. Our relationship has obviously run it's course.

Leaning my head on the window, I slowly let my mind wander and drift off to sleep.

I look to my left then I look to my right. I spot him on the other side of the cliff.

"Jump," Mac coaxes.

"No, it's too wide," I say terrified, taking a step back.

"Don't you trust me, babe, I won't let anything happen to you," a wicked grin is painted on his face.

"Yes," I whisper.

"Then jump!"

"I can't!" I wail.

"Stop being a crybaby. I don't date crybabies."

"I'm sorry, but I can't," I cry out, collapsing onto the hard ground.

Mac's friendly, teasing demeanor changes into something sinister.

"Well if you won't then I guess I'll have to push you," he smirks.

Before I even have time to comprehend what he has said, I feel two large arms wrap around me.

"Let me go!" I scream, wriggling, trying to get out of this guys possession, but he's too strong.

We keep walking until all that's left is a giant gaping hole. We stop, and I turn to look at Mac, terrified. I'm hoping and praying this is all a cruel joke. He'd never do this to me. After all, I am pregnant with his child.

"You know, it's a shame, you were so good in bed. But I can't have a pregnant girlfriend while I try to assassinate the president. So in reality, I'm really doing you a favor."

I stare at him speechless.

"Goodbye," is all he says, as the big man drops me.

Wind rushes through my hair, and all I can think is, 'what have I done to deserve this'.

I pass out before I hit the ground.

I jolt awake, sweat pouring down my face. Mac looks at me with worry.

"You got that dream, too?" he whispers.

I can only manage to nod.

We stare at each other in silence, none of us able to think of anything to say.

"Please fasten your seat belts, we are beginning our descent and will arrive there shortly," the flight attendant announces over the intercom.

I stare out the window, as Mac stares straight ahead.

Shortly after, we arrive at the JFK airport. Mac grabs my luggage for me as we slowly make our way to the car.

We both slide into the car, but neither of us move to start it.

Surprisingly, I'm the one who finds my voice first.

"I think we need to call the man who gave us the card."
