Ma, the Celestial Spirit Horse, was explaining to Natsu and Lucy about the critical matter such as why Natsu had to summon Lucy's Spirits and why Lucy has to invoke the Chinese Zodiac spirits. The answer was to fight the darkness that is coming. "Vanquish Evil? What Evil?" Lucy asked. "His name is Cosmos," Ma said. "Cosmos?" Natsu repeated. "Yes, he is the polar opposite of Celesion and Celestia," Ma stated. "You don't say," Natsu said as the clouds were getting dark. "Getting late already. We've only been gone for a few hours," Lucy stated. "Well I wish I can stay and chat, but I better get back to the realm. See you later," Ma said as he disappeared. Lucy wanted to stop him, but she was too late. "Wait, Ma, you didn't say who Cosmos was," she asked, but Ma didn't reply since he was already gone. "Well, he told us that Cosmos was the polar opposite of the two twin dragons from space," Natsu said. "Yeah but..." she didn't complete the sentence as rain poured down. "Why does it always rain when we leave Celesion's realm?" Natsu asked as Lucy and himself ran for the nearest shelter which was a cow's barn. "I'll say, this is the third time that I've got my new clothes soaked!" Lucy complained, "Well, if Ma wouldn't tell maybe another spirit will." She pulled out another blue key. "I wonder whose key this is?" Lucy looked at the key, and Natsu suggested that it belonged to a cow. "Maybe a bull," he said. "Maybe, but what was his name?" she asked. "I know! Ma the horse because he introduced us to him. And there is Chi the Dragon," Lucy mentioned. Then it hit her, "Oh wait! I can try and summon her instead." She looked for the key that looked similar to a dragon. "This looks about right. Okay, open the gate of the Dragon, Chi." The key glowed but then sparked out as nothing happened. "No Spirit, is that the right key?" Natsu asked. "Well yeah, it says Dragon on it," Lucy replied. "So, you can read Chinese I guess," Natsu stated as Lucy remembered something, "Oh yeah, I got it now." She grabbed the key she had before. "Open the gate of the Boar, Zhu." It glowed and then out popped a bold, tan muscular man with big tongs on his head. He was wearing a nose ring, half-naked, and he had hairy pigs feet.
"Greetings, Miss Heartfilia. I'm Zhu the Boar Spirit. Now, young ones, how may I help you?" Zhu greeted them. "He reminds me of Capricorn," Lucy stated. "Oh, yes, an old friend of mine. That takes me back," Zhu replied. "Hey, Zhu. I have a question that Ma couldn't answer...well, two questions." Lucy brought up the last comment. "Let's start with the first question," Zhu said. "Who is Cosmos?" Natsu asked. "Oh, I see. Cosmos is a frightened dragon of our kind. Just like Celesion and Celestia, he was born from Mother Universal along with Astral the Celestial Spirit King and Ophiuchus the Snake Charmer...but that is a story for another time. You should get back to work, young lady. You've got six days to summon us, and I'd rather not waste any more time talking about this." Lucy gasped. Zhu waved his hand back and forth and said, "Just summon another spirit; you'll get more information from Tu the Rabbit." Then, the boar spirit disappeared, and Lucy fell to her knees. "Hey, are you okay?" Natsu asked, worried. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just worn out. The spirits from Celestion's realm are quick and powerful" Lucy stated. "Well, I like to call it the Space realm; there is nothing but stars and dark sky with no clouds like you're in space," Natsu suggested as Lucy giggled. "Well, as I was saying, the spirits from the 'space' realm have such divine magic. It told all my magical power to summon one of them," Lucy said. "But I saw you summon two of them," Natsu stated. "Well, Ma, the horse, wasn't a big deal, but Zhu got to me," Lucy replied.
The rain stopped after a few hours. "Oh, look, the rain stopped," Natsu noticed and looked up at the sky and saw white clouds. "Well, Lucy, we better head back," he suggested as he turned around and saw Lucy sleeping on the ground. "Oh, those spirits tired her out," Natsu wanted to wait until she woke up from her little nap, and while he was waiting, he looked up at the sky. Looking at the clouds, he noticed a strange form. A voice came into his head, "the thirteen keys and the many spirits." "What?" Natsu asked as he looked around, but no one else was there except sleeping Lucy, who was now waking up. "Oh, Natsu," she said. "Hey there, sleeping beauty. You were out for a while," he replied as Lucy got up and scratched her arms. "Has the rain stopped yet," she asked, and he answered "yes." "Oh good now we can head back. I could use a hot bath back at the motel, but first, Natsu, I need a favor." Natsu answered her, "What is it?" "You see I can't feel my legs, and my body is numb, so do you mind carrying me?" Lucy winded. Moments later, Natsu was giving Lucy a piggy-back ride to the village. "Thanks, Natsu. I owe you one," Lucy said. "Don't mention it. I don't mind helping you out," he replied. Natsu was having thoughts in his head. "Say, Lucy, can I ask you something?" The question came up. "Yeah, what is it?" And the answer to the question will lead to another question. "It's about the spirits. Just how strong do you have to be to summon one of them?" Natsu asked. "What do you mean? How strong? It's all about the bonds we share. You of all people should know that," Lucy replied. Natsu said, "That's what I'm talking about, the bond we share with our friends and family back at Fairy Tail isn't like this. No, it's different." Lucy was conflicted to his reply. "When I summon Loke and the others, I..." he stopped in his track. "I didn't feel anything." Lucy's eyes widen. "There is something I would like to tell you, Lucy." Natsu placed her down on the grass, and he sat down with her. "What is it Natsu?" She put her hand on top of his hand and they intertwined their fingers. "Back then, I summoned a spirit. As a child, I used to get sick a lot, but you already know that. But, there is more," Lucy gasped. "You see, not only did I get sick from using my celestial power, but I never felt the bond that I had with the spirits, not once." Natsu frowned. "I've never told my mother about it or anyone else for that matter," Lucy said, freaking out. "Wait! You are saying you've never felt a connection towards them even after all that hard work it takes to summon them?" Natsu nodded his head. "I didn't want what to tell you this, but I didn't connect with any of them, or, to speak more plainly, it might be that I couldn't." He lowered his head even farther.
Lucy was shocked and upset with Natsu. "What? Why didn't you?" Lucy tightened the grip on the hand that she was holding dear. "I wish I could tell you, but even I don't know the answer to that. It's like there is a wall between us, and I couldn't make a connection with any of them, not even Loke." Lucy gasped. "Maybe it's just me, I'm not cut out to be a celestial wizard, I didn't realized it took such bonding to bring out a spirit. I have to say, Lucy, you've got your work cut out for you because you make it look easy." Natsu smiled at her as her eyes, the chocolate orbs, widened as she noticed the tears on the boy's cheek. "I'm sorry, Lucy. I can understand if you hate me now, and if this doesn't work out with us and the others, then I take all the blame and..." Natsu didn't get to finish his sentence as a pair of arms wrapped around him. They fell to the ground with her mouth on his lips and his eyes widened. Lucy pulled away and then slapped him, "Why are you like this?" she questioned out of anger. "I don't know, I feel weak," Natsu replied. "You're not weak, you never were," Lucy responded with sorrow in her eyes. "Sorry, Lucy, I didn't mean to make you worry. You see, I know how much you care about your spirits, so I didn't want to let you down, and if anything happens to them, it'll be my fault," Natsu said as he hugged his legs with his right arm and his left hand squeezed Lucy's hand. Some images popped into her head, a flashback of Natsu's past. "What is this?" she whispered, "Are these flashback? Are Natsu's memories flowing into me?" Lucy closed her eyes and saw an image of Larina and the spirit, Chi, forming a connection. Suddenly, the images stopped, causing her eyes to widen, and she gasped, "I see now." Lucy hugged the crying boy in her arms, and then she started to cry. The couple were embracing each other
Next Chapter- Mother Universal
Another long one it took me three days to write consider I kept changing the plot after re-reading the story for myself so I kept with the original story plot and also keep with the same book I've been writing back and forth between Dragon Fairy and the unpublished story I'm working on Fairy Tail Student Council Butler and I promised myself that I wouldn't work on it until after this story is finished completely and as for Dragon Fairy not sure where I'm going with that one but I'll get to it. I'm not making any one of my stories discontinue.
