If you are updated with this story and didn't just randomly find this chapter, you will know that Merissa is going to pretend to be Viola for quite some time. So, from now on, I'm going to refer to her as "Viola."
"Viola" and Hannah became very close friends. They solved crimes together, lived in 221B together, and spent a lot of time with Michael. They really were the next generation Holmes and Watson.
No one thought it was weird that the two had no adult supervision. John was perfectly okay with Hannah being with who he thought was Viola because he thought Sherlock was there. All the other adults, including Lestrade, thought the same. People had put more trust in Sherlock over the years as he proved to be able to raise a healthy child.
Merissa managed to "have deduction skills" by doing loads of research.
And, after all that time, Hannah never knew who "Viola" really was.
Every time the two got in a cab, it was the same cabbie from Hannah and (the real) Viola's first encounter.
Hannah didn't seem to notice.
A couple weeks into pretending to be Viola, "Viola" went to St. Bart's to continue with one of the cases.
As usual, she greeted Michael, then sat at the microscope. Michael, as usual, stayed uncomfortably close to "Viola."
In the middle of x-raying a suspiciously thick but small picture frame, Michael dropped and broke a slide of poison "Viola" had previously been looking at.
"Oh, Michael," she sighed as she got up to pick up the slide.
"Sorry," he said, panicking.
He hurried to pick it up and ended up just dropping it all again.
"Michael, Michael!" "Viola" said as he started to cry. "Michael, it's okay."
"No, it's not!" he cried,
He was so afraid that she would hate him forever for this.
"Michael, it really is okay. There's no need to panic. I was done with that slide anyway." "Viola" cooed. She hated this, having to be nice to someone she really was mad at and just thought was plain annoying. She had dreamed of getting rid of him or at least ticking him off. She knew just the thing.
"Michael, I could never be mad at you because........because....."
"What, Viola?"
"Because....I like...you," she tried to make it as sentimental as possible and hoped she was hiding her true feelings.
"Really?" Michael said with hope.
"Yes, really," "Viola" laughed.
"Oh, Viola! I've always liked you. Ever since we first met, I have liked you and hoped you'd like me back! Oh!" Michael exclaimed as he pulled her into a hug.
"Yes, yes," "Viola" said as she patted his head awkwardly as she knew the real Viola would have done. She had always known he liked the real Viola and planned to break his heart sometime in the future by telling him she wasn't real.
From that moment on, "Viola" and Michael were as close as "Viola" and Hannah were.
This life went on for about two months.
And no one suspected a thing.
