"I'm sorry we couldn't spend any time together." I said, hugging Eugene. "It's okay. I'm just glad you aren't hurt." He said as we pulled away from the hug. "I'll come visit you, yeah?" I asked, earning a nod from him. "I'll miss you." I said as he joined Jeremy in the car.
"Where's Aaron?" Ian asked, earning a shrug from me. "Fuck if I know." I said, hugging Kyle. Aaron was still mad over what had happened between us the previous day.
He had kept his distance, refusing to come back to the room later on even though he knew I needed to scent him to ease the pain especially since Greg had gone MIA following the Edwin stunt.
He had kept his distance, refusing to see my family off. And he calls himself my mate, I scoffed in my head with an eyeroll.
"Ahhh, I don't want to part from my baby." Kyle said, tears leaking from his eyes. "You're growing too fast." He said, laughing sadly.
"Don't cry, Kyle." I said with a sombre smile decorating my face as I wiped his tears away with my thumb. I blinked away my own tears, swallowing hard. I had to be strong for him. We can't have both of us being teary messies, now can we?
Sometimes I forgot how much Kyle cared for me. I always say that Ian is overprotective but Kyle was way worse. His was unlike Ian's which was overwhelming. His was subtle, the kind of subtle that led to deaths of whoever dared to harm me.
Aaron kept his life only because he was my mate. Had he not been mine, his name would have been etched in the long list of Kyle's victims.
"I'll come visit you." I said, hugging him again. "For what it's worth, you're my favorite parent." I told him, letting him go. He ran into Ian's arms, sobbing against his shoulder.
"We were hoping that you'd find your mate later on." Ian said, rubbing circles on Kyle's back. "It feels too soon. Too soon to be letting you go." A sad smile etched itself on his face. It broke my heart, I felt as though I was parting from them ahead of time.
"Take care of him, Greg." Ian said, earning a nod from Greg.
Greg had went back to Ian's pack to cool down following Edwin. He had been stuck in a co-conscious state with Terror and needed Dr Angela's expertise as she was one who was best to call for phases of prolonged co-consciousness.
Prolonged states of co-consciousness between the human and wolf were harmful for a werewolf.
They would lead to the integration of the wolf and human which the body usually couldn't handle. It was fatal and those who had the misfortune of surviving it were shells of what used to be people.
"Take care, Brian." Ian said as they drove away. I watched the car pull away until it disappeared. It felt as the car was leaving with my strength, my care, my love. I threw my arms around Greg, sobbing quietly against his shoulder.
"You're okay. It's okay." He whispered, rubbing circles on my back. He patiently let me cry it out. The hole in my chest grew wider and wider with each quiet sob that I let out.
He picked me up, I wrapped my legs around his waist. My head was buried in the crook of his neck as he led us to the room where he sat with me on his lap.
