The most deadly silence fell over the place as the four of them approached the village, now full of black, sharp rocks. Rapunzel couldn't stop glancing from time to time towards Varian, which had the same thoughts as the princess, feeling not only sadness but completely useless against the situation.

Usually, Varian thought that the power of Alchemy was beyond amazing and could fix anything. Turns out that this time, Alchemy ruined someone else's life and the boy couldn't bring himself to hate it nor love it now...
Rapunzel didn't blamed Varian, his intentions were good deep down but clearly, she already was aware that if Varian revealed what had happened, the mother would make the entire Corona turn against her friend, not caring what kind of explanation was behind it. That was what she believed because of the grief of a mother losing her only child in a very unexpected way.

-We're almost there.- Quirin forced their way towards the old lab, being covered in more black rocks that grew up in the dark of the last night. The rest followed him, Varian grabbing a vile with green liquid and shaking it, watching how at least half the room could be seen now. He gave the test tube with the glowing green light to his father and he smiled, whispering a little "Thank you".

-I-I'm confused, where is my daughter? She can't be locked down here, can she?- (M/n) aporoached Quirin, looking at him and he sighed deeply, opening another door that lead to a bigger room, the green liquid illuminating everything around for what it seemed a completely mess that Varian still remembered as it happened only days ago.

Varian walked towards the orange solid chemical reaction covered up entirely, Rapunzel standing next to the woman and Quirin, signaling his son to uncover it.

He did so, gaining a gasp from the woman, rushing to the encased (Y/n).

-(Y-Y/n)! (N-N/n)... My daughter! No, no! I-It can't be, y-you can't! Not you too...- She hit the solid amber and let out many sobs, shaking her head.

-First, your father a-and now you t-too...- She whispered, hiding her face full of tears between her hands, to only feel someone kneel next to her. Rapunzel hugged the shocked (M/n), Quirin and Varian watching the heartbreaking scene of a mother losing everything she loved and cared the most.

-My dear (N-N/n)...- The shaky sobs were now loud cries resonating across the walls of the room.

Rapunzel and Quirin helped the woman get up, not daring to talk a bit and just making sure she would get out of her shocked and depressed state. Varian decided to walk out of the old crushed house due to the remorse he now felt and couldn't do nothing else than to think it was his own fault. If only he listened to his father to stop his experiments around the black rocks, none of this would have happened and (Y/n) would have been out of the frozen chemical reaction, not making her mother so sad and at least, if her father died, the woman wouldn't be going through this worstened pain.

After thinking around at least 20 minutes, Quirin walked out and met Varian there, knowing already what they would discuss. Even the Mother Nature was aware that the days were growing dark and sad, even so, the weather seemed to change between sunny to cloudy during the rest of the day.

-I know what you're going to say...- Varian mumbled, sighing

-You made a mistake but I know you feel horribly guilty about it, just knowing you couldn't resist to hear the woman breaking down is enough.- Quirin then hugged him, feeling Varian shake his head, apologizing over and over again.

-You don't need to do that, Varian. We can't risk giving this woman worst news so for now, we will keep it away from her.- Quirin and Varian agreed to do so and as they were almost done talking, Rapunzel walked out of the crumbled home, along with (Y/n)'s mother.

-We're completely sorry about all of this.- Rapunzel spoke, leaving her hand on (M/n)'s shoulder.

The woman shook her head and wiped away her own tears, taking a deep breath.

-It's not your fault, p-princess. The person who done this to my daughter must be someone from Old Corona...- Her expression went from pain to anger, looking at the blonde princess as Quirin glanced at Varian, knowing why they couldn't tell her what happened completely.

-In that case, please let me handle this, (M/n). You had enough pain during a few months, I can handle this and discover everything, alright?- The mother, boiling in anger and thirsty for revenge, nodded and excused herself, walking back to Corona.

-Varian, this is bad. Very, very bad.- Rapunzel talked, looking scared and disappointed, not rather by the situation but by the fact that she lied to someone who lost her daughter -not completely as for now- and yet it felt like a loss for the woman. Just lying to a person wasn't easy for her and now she needs to cover up everything Varian told her.

-I know, I also feel bad for all of this... What else can we do, dad?-

-There's nothing we can do now, Varian. We have to wait and look up in those books she gave us.- Rapunzel agreed to the idea and Varian didn't had another option than to follow the plan his father suggested.

The three of them decided to walk back, Quirin and Varian exchanging good bye's with Rapunzel as she went straight to Corona, thinking about the whole mess and how she could cover up more the truth but most importantly: how much longer she could do so without spilling the secret...

Sadly, for all of them it was just the tip of the iceberg. Things would go downhill from this point and nothing will ever be the same. What Varian, Quirin and Rapunzel didn't know was that the woman stopped trusting the blonde princess to get revenge on whoever encased her beloved daughter inside that chemical reaction.

-I'm not backing up this time. I cried enough and it's time to uncover whoever did this to you, sweetheart.- Her eyes were burning in anger and she looked too absorbed into her thoughts, ignoring the people that glanced eventually at her due to the woman giving off furious and intimidating looks.

"Those who change destiny, revert the effects of it on themselves. Forgive me for realizing it too late..."
