"Spence? Get up, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Doctor Spencer Reid couldn't help but flinch at the internal ringing that was sounding in his eardrums. It was painful and disorienting.
For a second, he even forgot what had just occurred.
"Are you okay, Spence?"
He blinked harshly, trying to clear his fuzzy vision. It was warm, unbearably so. And the heat felt like it was radiating so close to his face.
"Wha - What happened?"
The image of a frantic JJ crouching down next him with wide and conceding eyes. Her face was smeared with dark ash and the ends of her blonde hair twisted, like they had been singed.
Struggling to sit up, Spencer looked around, trying to piece together what had occurred. People around him were running around, some laid on the floor, others yelled and pointed towards a certain direction. When he turned his head toward it, the heat gathered among his cheeks and became even more unbearable.
"There was a bomb underneath the warehouse. We - we didn't know until..." JJ pulled out her cell phone from her pocket.
"She sent a text."
Spencer grabbed the device out of her hands and rubbed his eyes, trying to focus on the small words. It was simple, short, and was straight to the point.
BOMB. RUN.
"Did anyone get hurt?"
The blonde shook her head, "No, Rossi got out just in time. We've got some agents unconscious but no permanent damage. If we were even a second late then -"
"Wait," Spencer's eyes started to water. He wasn't sure if it was due to the smoke or something else, but he bit down on his lip to distract from it.
"Did she..."
He couldn't finish his question, fearing the answer he would get.
JJ turned her eyes away from his, fiddling with her hair and tucking it behind her ear. She looked mad but the underlying truth behind her expression: fear and guilt.
"I don't know, Spence. I don't know."
