You trudge to the elevator and press the 8th button. The machine kicks into gear and starts your decent.
You wait patiently for the doors to open as you get lower down the building when you start to feel an odd presence around you, slowly turning around. Fear bubbling in your throat as you spot the black figure in the corner.
It seemed to be a dim outline of a woman. She had white eyes and no features. Just a... shadow... what seemed to be a dress was ragged and hovered off of the ground. "Are you lost ma'am?" You ask quietly as you study the spirit intently. When she shakes her head no, makes a sound that sounds like a sigh, the bell sings to signal that you reached your destination. You gulped and turned swiftly walking out into the swarm of workers and clientele.
You felt the spirits presence follow you as you walked. People gave confused glances at your change of outfits.
You felt out of place, like an orange in a bowl of apples.
You sighed and pushed on, ignoring the fact people were beginning to talk about you. The spirit trailed closely behind and you decided to leave it be for now. You guessed it wouldn't do any harm.
Right?
Right?
No. You shouldn't second guess yourself like that. You shook your head and continued through the rows of baths and spirits. You listened out for any trouble and hearing none, you were satisfied. Making your way to the front of the bath house to help greet guests for a few minutes.
"Y/N!? What are you doing wearing those clothes!" Lin said walking up behind you studying the fabric neatly clinging to your body. "I'm Haku's assistant while..." you wondered should you tell them Yubaba has left. It probably wasn't wise.
You should stay quiet and keep on obeying Haku's orders.
You should tell no one anything and stay quiet about it. Just in case.
"While??" Lin asked impatiently as she held a brush and a water token in her hands.
Crap.
You had no excuse that was even a valid one at all. You wracked your brain for a diversion but coming up empty handed you sighed defeated. Lin opened her mouth to continue her questioning when she was pulled away by a Snake Spirit. It was hissing to her about something as she shot a quick glare back at you. You gulped and turned on your heel walking away, sighing. "Don't tell anyone" you repeated to yourself until you reached the entrance door. You looked outside and saw that spirit from earlier. You bit your lip and dragged your gaze away and greeted Spirits.
After an hour or so of greeting you decided to check up on Haku and get more orders.
You were starting to feel tired but pushed on anyways. The spirit from earlier had become your shadow and you felt slightly uneasy in its presence. You felt as if it was a weight on your shoulders, perhaps it was making you tired? You heaved in a breath as you stood in the elevator. You watched the "skies" fly by until you reached the top. You shivered under the spirits watchful gaze as it floated behind you. You had become familiar with the maze that it was to reach Yubaba's office, even in your short time here. The spirit had begun to hum a quiet tune. You bristled under the eerie sound but kept on walking towards the office.
Just get to Haku, then you will be fine.
You tell yourself over and over. But were you going to be fine? You didn't know the answer to that. This spirit seemed a bit... off... to say the least.
You swung open the doors and gasped at the sight in front of you.
"Haku!"
