Liam~ Distance Difficulties

Kenzie picked up the bunch of flowers that had been delivered, and made her way over to the sash window. Holding the beautiful bouquet in her right hand and opening the window with her left, she leant out the window and took in a deep breath of cool night air. She then threw the crafted flower arrangement out of the fourth story window, to the front lawn below. The flowers dropped through the air, twirling in a spiral, petals flying out before for crashing into the grass below and breaking into a green and white mush.

The thrill of throwing something so beautiful away and making it break, made her want to break down in sob. But she didn’t. It was exactly what her boyfriend had done to her and now she was going to make sure everything he had was broken too.

Turning back into the apartment, she went to the wardrobe and pulled open a draw and began gathering up all his clothes. The clothes that she had spent ages washing, and ironing multiple times, and had sat crying to repeatedly and sniffing in a hope that maybe remembering his smell will bring him back to her. Angrily, she marched over to the window and threw them out too, watching as jumpers, trousers, socks, his favourite hoodie that she wore to bed floated down and crashed on to the flowers, rendering them unrecognizable. Spinning back to the apartment again, she got his toothbrush, the flashing one he loved so much and cost him a fortune and lobbed that out too. Nest his pillow went, all the disposable razors that he never threw away. The photographs stuck all over the wall were ripped from there carefully arranged places and torn up the thrown out the window. Kenzie stopped to watch each tiny square of ripped, glossy paper, capturing each special moment they had shared, as the fluttered down to the wreckage below. Tears dripped down her cheeks as you looked at each photo one last time, before ripping it to tiny pieces and letting the pieces float one. Each memory she relieved and then let go. She stroked a photo of the two of them together on their first anniversary. That day had been the happiest day of her life. Kenzie gazed at the girl in the picture who seemed so happy, gazing up into the boy’s eyes, who was beaming back and pushed a strand of fly away blonde hair back from her face. They had been at the beach, gone for a weekend before his big tour. They had asked an elderly couple to take a picture of the two of them, but they took it too early and neither were expecting it. In the end it became their favourite picture together. They were so at ease and happy in each other’s company. It’s hard to believe that the love in that picture disappeared only weeks after, when the boy had gone on tour.

Liam drove quickly along the familiar route from his house to his girlfriend’s apartment. It was practically his second home he spent so much time there. Recently though, he hadn’t been able to because the tour and everything. He missed Kenzie desperately when he was away from her. He’d call her and text her whenever he had the chance, only he didn’t get a chance very often. He knew she felt left behind sometimes, when he was off travelling around the world, and she was stuck in boring old England with the rain. But whenever he got back, he would spend most of his time with her. Sometimes that wasn’t always possible but she accepted that.

The big American tour had gone well for Liam. The band had taken off, and they were a big hit, but now he was back, all he cares about was seeing Kenzie. It had been weeks since they had seen each other. Whenever she asked to see him, he couldn’t do it because management always organised things at the last minute, so any plans made were thrown out the window.

Turning right into Kenzie’s road, he couldn’t help but have his face break out into a beaming smile. Like he could sense that she was close by and his heart doubled in speed at seeing her beautiful caramel-brown eyes, and smelling her strawberry shampoo when they hugged, and tasting her butter-smooth lips against his. He’d sent flowers to say that his plane was late and he couldn’t see her yet, but management had got him an earlier flight by himself and so he was going to surprise her by turning up at her apartment. Still driving, reached over to the passenger seat and opened the little jewellery box. Flipping it open with his thumb, and revealing the silver band inside, he smiled to himself. The band was inlayed with tiny diamonds, in a spiral shape around the platinum band. Being away for so long from his love, this made him realise how much Kenzie means to him. He wanted to someday marry her, so he had got a promise ring for her. Kenzie wasn’t ready for marriage at the moment and neither was Liam, but he knew she was the one so is they were promised to each other, that would be fine as well.
