The sunlight entered through the window pane into a well furbished room. A room not so big but which was comforting. The rays brightened up the surroundings. The cool breeze danced on a calm face. A face that could melt anyone's heart. It gently caressed the face of the asleep soul. The chirrupings of the birds sitting near the casement filled the empty room with sweet music.
A soft hand stroked his hair. Instead of waking him up these gestures lulled him more into sleep and tranquility.
"Neil" a melodious yet strict voice called out and I opened my eyes to greet an old woman.
The woman who is my grandmother. She is old yet beautiful. Her smile gives me a reason to smile everyday.
Sometimes all you need is a smile to forget all the problems. A smile from a loved one, a smile that can touch your heart.
I woke up and stretched myself and instantly hugged her.
She laughed and said "Breakfast is ready."I nodded and answered, "I will be there in a minute." And I progressed towards the washroom to follow the everyday monotonous routine.
It's been a while since she came here. Although I left the house long ago because I was too ashamed of myself. Even though my family assured me that they had faith that I had no fault. But I couldn't face the people who looked at me questioningly.
Criticizing me.Upon a lot of insistence by Bebe (grandma) and my parents I agreed that she can come and stay with me for a while.
I love the smell of her paranthas. It feels like home. It feels great to be loved and cared for.
After completing my breakfast and little bit of harmless and fun bantering with Bebe over issues that can't be more petty, I went to my room and started painting.
Painting is all I do now during the day. Earlier I used to give martial arts training to children but I have decided to give it a rest for a while.
I pick out my paint brush and dip it into the creamy and dark red color but wait I couldn't concentrate.
Whenever I shut my eyes I see her. Her face. Her furious yet placid face.
I decide to convey my feelings through my art.
And I move the brush in an unknown way. A way I never did before. It felt as if the brush was guiding me. Guiding me to my destiny.
In the evening....
I barged into the cafe. The inviting aroma of the coffee rushed through my nose and I took a deep breath inhaling all of it.
The antique decor with dim lights placed at ideal places enhanced it's look. The tables were decorated with a single rose placed in a delicately carved small vessel.
My reverie was broken by an angered cry.
"Why are you late?" A middle aged plump woman with short hair highlighted by streaks of red, wearing a black knee length dress asked me.
She was the owner of that marvelous Cafe.
I looked down. My blood vessels dilated resulting in a rosy tint on my Cheeks. I smiled sheepishly.
I couldn't tell her that I was painting someone I just met a day before.
"uhh I was.."
"I know you must be painting. And I know it's not wrong but try and understand you need to be here on time. It's your work, your job." She said in a voice which was explaining.
I knew she was right. "I am sorry Miss Daisy. I won't repeat it." I promised.
"I believe you. Now go be quick." she said smiling.
I looked forward at the small stage and quickly climbed on it.
I took out my guitar and checked it once. I cleared my throat.
It is your job. Miss Daisy's words rang in my mind.
I don't know how badly I wanted to tell her that it's not just my job.
It is a way of expressing my pain, my angst, my vexation, my blues to the world without disturbing them or actually telling them.
I told them all about me but i never did .
Shut up and get back to work.
My brain again. 😅Ya sure. I mumbled.
I went forward and started strumming and soon words left my mouth as if they were dying to do.
Pal do pal ki kyun yeh zindagi
Is pyar ko hai sadiyan kafi nhi.............I sang and sang until I felt content, satiated and complete.
Soon the place was filled with loud cheers and thunderous claps and whistling.
I finally managed to open my eyes and the moment I opened them I was shocked as hell.
All i could exclaim was "Oh shoot ! "
