Serena and her sister, Hope, have been kept captive inside their mothers home, and been lied to that they and their mother are the only people left on the world, and if they went outside they would surely die.
After Serena sees a bunch of people outside, she knows her mother has been lying to them. She takes Hope and some food and runs away into the Last Town.
