Leslie

I had to take it.

The apprenticeship was a steady way out of the war.

It meant I could retrieve my boy.

Even if it meant that I had to see him more often.

And if it meant that he'd be in the back of my mind.

"Like he wasn't there to begin with."

But I didn't know one's heart could break multiple times.

Maybe the glue I used wasn't strong enough to keep together what he had broken.

But standing in his room, looking into his eyes made me fall apart once again.

My throat closed and I felt the air being taken from me.

Time seemed to slow down as those deep brown eyes stared at me instead of the one he was speaking to.

But it all sped up again when I looked away.

I knew my eyes displayed my emotions.

"Who cares? Let him see that we're ready to fight again!" my wolf snarled. She was getting angry, wanting to seek out a fight for Liecia's place. "Challenge the she-wolf!"

I shut her out and turned to Kinshra.

She sighed, but looked happy.

"If that is what you want, we can discuss this later," she said and turned to Natasha. "Looking at his state, I'm thinking that he can move back to the Alpha estate. Do you agree?"

Natasha's mouth formed a line and her brows furrowed. Her joking state was gone and she looked a little angry. She was frustrated with him and the fact that I was in the room when he announced the news.

"He can go," she stated in a monotone voice. "Does this mean that we can help other's?"

Kinshra nodded.

"Yes you can, but I expect nothing but the best from you, girls," she said seriously. "We'll leave the men to help move Darrow back to his room. No one has to know that he is back though, I want him to rest before work begins, alright?"

I heard Darrow sigh and mumble something, but I held my eyes glued to the ground.

As we stepped out of the room, Kinshra started giving out orders. But her words flew into the abyss of my mind. We stalked down the hall and into the main area.

"Leslie," I heard a voice faintly say.

I wanted to listen, to hear what my mentor was telling me, but my mind was stuck to the ring on Liecia's finger. On the smiles they had and the future that was waiting for them.

A future I'd never have.

"Leslie," a hand shot out to take my and arm shake it a little. "Are you okay?"

My head shot up and I looked into the eyes of Basia, Natasha, Hope and Kinshra.

I nodded quickly: "Yeah, uh, yeah, I'm fine," I said. "I don't feel so well?" I stated it more as a question. "I think I just need some air, or... A run or something,"
