HER ESCAPE

Third Person POV•

It was the end of the year, the end of Kaden and Aurora's second year of university and the time of year Aurora mourns her father's absence.

"Hey Aura," Kaden greeted her as he entered her dorm. He had formed a habit of just letting himself into her apartment unannounced, constantly earning a roll of eyes and shake of head from Aurora at his comfortableness.

"What's up, Kade?" She asked.

"Well, I was wondering, since we have two months holiday before uni starts again, we could go somewhere together maybe?" He asked, hopefully.

This was exactly what Aurora was afraid of. She would have loved to go on holiday with Kaden but this wasn't a good time. Her mind automatically went into panic mode at Kaden's suggestion. As much as it would hurt him and she would be disappointed, she had to decline his offer.

"Uhh um n-no! I mean I-I can't go. I'm going to see my parents, I'm sorry b-but maybe next time?" She stuttered and was incredibly nervous.

Kaden was taken aback by her sudden reply. He noticed she was worried and refused to meet his gaze but he had no clue as to why that was.

Many possibilities about her sudden turn down clustered his mind. Was she tired of his company? Was she shutting him out again? Did he say or do something wrong or to hurt her? Was she having second thoughts and regretting letting him close to her?

Kaden replaced his slightly hurt expression with a more normal and neutral look before speaking. "Well... maybe I could come meet your parents too since they were the ones to get you to open up to me?" Kaden suggested trying to sound unaffected by her decline, hope clouding his eyes.

"Uhh.. umm.. b-b-but..." Aurora said, unable to construct a proper sentence since she was too mortified at his suggestion. He can not, and will not see her at her breaking point. She can not be seen so vulnerable and torn apart. Not if she could help it at all.

"I'll get packing and will be back in an hour or two. I'll probably crash at yours again tonight so we can leave bright and early tomorrow," Kaden said, excitement etching his features. Not letting her argue with him about accompanying her and leaving before she could say anything more.

Aurora was in overdrive, in an emotionally panicked state. She had to leave before Kaden got back. He would be hurt that she'd left him but it was her only option.

Aurora knew she had to distance herself from him for a couple weeks. It would hurt her as much as it would hurt him, but she thought it was for the best.

Within a half hour, Aurora had messily dumped whatever clothing she had in a large black duffel bag and grabbed a couple snacks from the fridge and cupboard and packing them into her handbag. After grabbing her phone, purse and charger, also putting them into her handbag, she rushed out of the dorm and waved in a taxi.

While Aurora was hurriedly packing to get away from Kaden, he was however rushing to get back to her, excited about meeting her parents tomorrow.

Aurora informed the driver that she wished to be taken to the Greyhound Bus Depot. GBD was a bus service which was specifically for long distance trips around the states.

Although it would be faster by plane for Aurora, she didn't like to pay the expensive plane flights and instead opted to wait a couple more hours and go by a cheaper mode of transport, by bus.

It wasn't that Aurora was poor and was in desperate need to save every cent she had. Her father made sure not to leave her in any debts and had paid of everything he owned including their family home.
