21 - Impeccable Voice (2)

Zhou Lei stood up from his bed and exited his room after confirming to his mother the fact that he heard her calling him.

After all, if he didn't do so, she would nag endlessly again, about how one should respond if they were called...

'Anyway...'

As Zhou Lei brushed aside his pessimistic thoughts, he arrived at the kitchen where he heard his mother's voice coming from.

He was greeted by the sight of his family looking at him with wide-eyes, while also putting their hands on their ears to amplify their hearing, listening attentively.

"What's...!"

As Zhou Lei was about to ask what was wrong, he realized something. It was his voice! His seamless, irreproachable, another adjective synonymous to seamless, faultless voice!

'How could I have forgotten?'

As soon as he realized this, he covered his mouth with his left palm and slowly retreated back to his room...

"Wait!"

Zhou Xiang! It was Zhou Xiang that had finally spoken up!

Zhou Lei froze. He hurriedly scrambled in his mind for a reasonable excuse as to why his voice was like that.

He wouldn't be able to handle the pressure that they exerted on his little sister back when they first saw her extraordinarily beautiful face!

As he already thought of an excuse, Zhou Lei quickly blurted it out.

"It... it's puberty!"

Hearing this, Zhou Xiang and the others wanted to spurt out blood.

'Puberty? In your age, puberty?! Besides, you've already gone through puberty!'

Sure, there were some cases where puberty hit on a late age, but it was definitely not the case for their son, who went through puberty already when he was 13...

Zhou Lei's train of thought had also gone in the direction that his parents were heading towards, only, he was a small but smarter than them, and thus arrived faster. He looked for an excuse yet again, and this time, he assured himself that it was an impeccable excuse.

"Th-the second stage! The second stage of puberty!"

The second stage? That... actually makes sense... only a small bit though...

Finally, Zhou Lei had settled this matter, and eventually, his parents accepted the change.

They accepted the change of their daughter's appearance so easily, that is, not to the extent that other parents would have, much less a measly change, although drastic, in their son's voice!

But still, Zhou Lei was confused over a matter.

He only put in 50 upgrade points on his voice, this time, and the last time as well. Why does it sound like this voice stat of his already exceeded 100?

As he investigated, System seemed to have only found out about this bug as well, as a notification popped up in Zhou Lei's mind.

Like usual, the cute voice that came with a bug sounded out in Zhou Lei's mind. "System is a prototype, so he is prone to bugs. I hope this won't affect your experience!"

After this was the robotic voice of System. "Fifth system bug discovered: altered amount of upgrade points allocated."

Seeing this, Zhou Lei couldn't help but be in awe of the alliteration...

'What a good 'altered amount of upgrade points allocated'!'

Back to the main story...

"Hmm?" Zhou Lei was, like always, confused about the bug.

'These names, although literal, are sure hard to understand!'

System explained to Zhou Lei what the bug was, patiently, at the same time, impatiently. "More or less than intended upgrade points were allocated on the stat: Host's Voice."

Zhou Lei checked on the stat.

Voice: 112

'W-what the heck?!'

He had 100 points prior to him upgrading his voice by 50, but why was it at 112? He could clearly remember that his voice stat was only at 12 before, so at most, it should have been 62 only...

'Did System use all of my remaining upgrade points?'

To answer Zhou Lei's doubts, System responded quite quickly. "Your upgrade points are not affected."

"Hmm, what?" As Zhou Lei heard this short explanation from System, he was pleasantly surprised. He checked it, and his eyes brightened.

Upgrade points: 50

He had essentially gotten a freebie from System!

His voice stat was upgraded by 100 points, while only using 50. For once, Zhou Lei had benefited from a bug! It's not like he benefited from the very first one, or something...
