There were already several instances of her almost being fired before being let off with a warning.
"I'll give you a second chance today. Don't let this happen again!" She had heard this line multiple times in her life. Right now, she was hearing it again.
At some point, she started becoming numb to the warnings and didn't listen to her boss's lectures anymore as her mind wandered somewhere else.
Such as: "Second chance? How many second chances have I had...?", or "That disease is an Estidy, right? Or whatever it's called...", and even "I need to devise my plan to get my son's Estidy!"
Finally, the boss's lecture ended. She was free to leave his office.
She left promptly.
