# 8- The Clarks go on an unusual, unexpected business

The school was over now, I was waiting at the school-gate for my friends. Megan better not ditch me or maybe she forgot about her promise she made a few hours ago. My phone vibrated in my pocket and I held it out to check my notifications.
Megan <<< Sry Stephanie, mom had to pick us up because we have some urgent business, we won't be able to meet 2day.
"I jinxed it," I thought and groaned. Urgent business, huh?

I was about to walk on the lonely streets when a sneaker caught my eye. It was a yellow Nike sneaker. I observed the shoe(Wow I am so jobless, staring at a yellow sneaker while others think you have gone crazy), it had laces, its sole was intact so logically saying, it was not thrown or something. Or maybe it is a drunkard's shoes. But then I also noticed that the shoe size was 4 or 5 (that disapproves the drunkard theory), the average size of an 11-year-old boy. It could be Tony's sneaker, just a wild guess.

I realized there was lots of dirt and mud on the sneaker, suggesting someone used it a lot or was playing football. Wait, this does look like Tony's sneaker because if I recall Tony loved football.

Thankfully, I had a polybag with me( I really don't know how it got in my bag). I put the shoe and continued on my way. I know I have gone crazy, carrying around someone's sneaker that think belongs to my friend. I could ask out the Clarks later, or else I will just leave the sneaker on the sidewalk with the sticky note-" Please find my partner." I will make sure nobody sees me doing that. Wait...if tony's sneaker was there, then why did T did not realize it? Was the job that urgent? Is he that careless? What I am saying, he pretty much is.

The Clark's house was on the way. Soon I would be living in it. I saw a flash of light coming from the back of the house, curiosity seized me- What was that flash? I could not stop myself but to go to the backyard of the house. That was when I should've known that curiosity kills the cat.

There were bushes surrounding the house, there was a tree which had a small, cute house on it. What does a tree house look from inside? I don't have an idea. I only know about a penthouse.

I got near the tree, the ladder which was made out of thick rope hung from the entrance of the house. I have to go in the house, perhaps the flash happened there.
Then I heard the creaking of the floor from the inside of the treehouse! Maybe there was someone there after all. I ran to the nearby bush so as not to get caught but accidentally dropped my polybag with the sneaker on the grass.

"I couldn't believe I lost my sneaker! What should I say to mom?" a familiar voice said. Perhaps it was Tony.
"Well, what can we say? It was your mistake." Lee said casually as he came down the rope ladder.
"My mistake, oh come on! My sneakers laces were untied, okay." Tony whined. " I would love to see you fall on the floor then," Marc said as Lee got off.
"-or you can tell mom you were chased by a dog because it thought that your shoe had a bone in it," Marc added as all of them got down on solid ground. Tony made a pouty face.

"Hey, guys! See I found a polybag!" Megan said showing her discovery to her brothers.
"And the 'best' treasure hunter award goes to Megan," Lee said sarcastically as the boys clapped. I mentally laughed.
"I mean hello? It has Tony's missing sneaker!" Megan said, So it was Tony's sneaker, after all, my brain is awesome ( Please let me have my moment).
Tony ran and reached out for the bag but Megan pulled back the bag," New jacket? Remember how you used it to make your superman cape?" What the actual fudge?
"Deal!" Tony said without a second thought and he wore the sneaker," Happy with your partner?" he said this while looking at his shoes. His siblings said together-" I am pretty sure he is adopted." I mentally coughed( what else I could do). Tony ignored their comment.

Megan-"So how did it get here?"
Lee-"I guess Jerry retrieved it." I wanted to come out of the bush saying- I AM YOUR FREAKING SECRET JERRY!

" I guess...let's head back home, mom is going to come up after two hours!" Marc suggested.
"And my room's messy!" Tony cried.
"Please tell me something new," Megan replied as they headed towards the door.
