"Dad,is mum ever going to come back to us?", Jasmine asked one fateful evening while they were sitting at the garden side of their home having some glass of wine.
Williams happy expression switched to that of a scowl. Flashbacks of memories of how his wife left him and his three years old baby and disappeared with a rich guy flooded his mind. How miserable and confused he felt when she left him that way. Getting drunk everyday that passes by became his hobby. He almost lost himself in the process of this heartbreak. He got so destabilized and started misbehaving at his workplace, which costed him the small job he had. Things became so hard for him.
Weeks turn into months and months into year hoping for his lovely wife to come back but she never did.
"Dad?",Jasmine called interrupting his thoughts.
"Honey can you please do me a favor and never bring up your mother's name here in this house again?",he asked with a scowl but was calm enough not to scold his daughter.
"But why dad? Why? Whenever I ask you of mum that's the only thing you've always said to me. I'm old enough to know the truth of why she left me that way? Was I causing so much trouble to her for her to have left me in such a tender age? Please dad, tell me",she persisted stretching out her hand and gave her dad a warm squeeze on his arm.
Williams look away avoiding gaze with his daughter. He cracked his knuckles as he flashback once again of how he worked so hard to get a better job to take care of his beautiful daughter after loosing his initial job in vanguard's company.
"Your mother left me for a rich guy",he blurted. Jasmine gasp in disbelief of what she just heard. "I showed her much love as a man would show to his woman but all I got was an abandonment. Even if she couldn't return my love, how about you? She could have loved you and stick to you as her only child",he continued with a gritted teeth. He took a quick glance at his daughter and gave him a light nod to proceed.
"I lost my job that I was managing because I was losing my mind. I was acting in a weird way,so I got fired to avoid causing more troubles to my colleagues and my boss",he paused and drank the whole content of wine in the glass cup and poured another. "It took me another whole year before I later got a good job in a big firm as a manager but before then, things was really hard for me especially I was more worried on how I'll enroll you in a school. As a manager i did my best to make a positive impart on the company, I became so busy with that new job and gradually i let go of my wife memories",he continued and took a long sip of his wine.
"As God will have it,he blessed my hard work through my boss who rewarded me in a big way. He assisted me in building the firm I have today. I'll always be indebted to him for showing me such kindness. Here I am today with my beautiful princess living in a good home and being a boss of my own and you're also doing well without her",he paused and stared to his daughter eyes. "So what's the point of always wanting to mention her name? To me its like a pin in the ass whenever you say talk or ask about her ",he added.
"I'm so sorry dad,I never knew this was the reason you didn't want me mentioning her name",she replied in apologetic tone and then hug her dad.
"No,don't be sorry. I feel much better now that you know the truth. In a way, your mother abandonment was a blessing in disguise",he said and returned her hug and then pecked her forehead.
"I promise I'll never talk about her again",she replied with a smile.
