"And so it seems I broke your heart. My ignorance has struck again. I failed to see it from the start and tore you open 'till the end."

Paisley's POV

I forced my legs to walk into the school doors, holding the straps of my backpack tighter. I sped up as I entered, high-tailing it to my first class. A hand grabbed my wrist and I froze in fear.

"Girl, why are you running so fast?" I left out a huge sigh of relief as I heard Ella's voice. I jumped around so quickly and wrapped my arms around her. I hadn't realized how much I missed her screeching, and hyper nature.

"Paisley, are you okay? What happened? Was it Web-Head?" Her voice was quickly increasing in volume and octave as she kept pelting me with questions. I slapped a hand over her mouth and peered around to see if anyone was paying attention. Realizing that no one was looking I dropped my hand with a soft smile.

"I'm okay, I just missed you." I smiled. She suddenly deemed it her turn to hug and she squeezed the life out of me.

"I missed you, too!" She exclaimed. "I'll walk you to class."

El grabbed my hand and headed up the stairs to Mr. Aldric's class. Dropping me off at the classroom, she skipped down the hall. I walked into the room and took my usually spot by the window.

The bell rang and Mr. Aldric started to rant about sonnet structure of something. That's typical Mr. Aldric. Bored out of my mind, my gaze drifted out to the window. Gym students littered the field as they lazily kicked a soccer ball to each other.

I stilled as my eyes flickered to Peter. He looked just as bored as everyone else. As if he knew I was watching him, he lifted his gaze to mine. His bored expression morphed into one of surprise. I couldn't look away.

We stayed like that-- staring at each other. Until a soccer ball came flying for Peter's face. He dodged it, of course, and I was finally able to break out of my trance. I snapped my eyes back to the front of the classroom, waiting miserably for class to end.

I was seriously dreading third period. I had no clue what to say, or what to do. The bell rang for the end of second period, and I disdainfully headed in the direction for Ms. Warren's classroom. Each step I took just caused my panic to grow. Okay, I'm just going to act completely normal. Sounds like a decent plan.

I placed my bag on the side of my lab table before taking a seat. I took a deep breath as I took out my notebook and doodled. I just wish a hole could open up beneath me and swallow me whole. The bell rang for class and I slowly lifted my head.

"Okay class, today is the last day to work on your presentations. We will be presenting tomorrow. Get with your partners to finish last minute details, and organizing what you will say." Ms. Warren said. I heard a couple of curses around the room from the slacking groups as my heart rate started to speed up. Act totally normal, nothing to worry about.

I closed the notebook and surveyed the room to see Peter staring at me. I slowly got up from my seat, grabbed my bag, and walked to his table. Perfectly normal so far, that's good. I set the bag on the floor and sat on the stool. Okay, silence is kinda not normal.

"Hi." I said, surprised on how steady my voice sounded. I looked down as I fidgeted with my fingers.

"Paisley, I never meant to--" Peter started but I cut him off.

"Do you want to you want to use note cards?" I asked softly.

"Wha-What?" He asked.

"For the project." I whispered. I hadn't looked him in the eyes.

"Oh..... I can just read the board." He sounded defeated. I nodded and finally looked up to see him gazing at the floor.

A hand loudly slapped the table causing me to jump. I snapped my eyes to the sound to see Ms. Warren looking at me sternly. "Have you guys finished?" She said sharply. I nodded, suddenly very alarmed. "Then you should be rehearsing."

She turned away from the table and I looked wide-eyed at Peter. She really had it in for me.

"I, uh, forgot the board at home." Peter muttered.

"Oh, that's okay," I said. "We can just wing it tomorrow."

Peter replied with a nod before turning his gaze at the ground. The rest of the hour was just me and Peter avoiding eye-contact.

The rest of the day passed quickly once I got out of Biology. Before I knew it I was speed-walking home. Rain started to sprinkle in from the sky, and it just caused me to start walking faster.

Finally getting to my apartment, I dropped my bag on the couch and headed to my room. I pulled my soaked sweatshirt over my head, leaving me in just a camisole and wet jeans. I was about to change into some pajamas, then someone clearing their throat got me to pause. I whipped around with a yelp and chucked my wet sweatshirt in the direction of the noise.

"Hey! It's just me, Peter!" I heard the intruder yell as I held up a lamp. I squinted my eyes through the dark and sighed in relief when I saw it was just Peter.

"Why the hell are you waiting in my dark bedroom like a creep?! You almost gave me a heart attack!" I screeched as I set down the lamp. I flicked the light switch on to see him, soaking wet. He gave a sheepful grin as he rubbed the back of his neck. This is the first time I've seen him in my room without his suit.

"What are you doing here?" I asked as I headed to my bathroom. I pulled out a towel and tossed it to him to dry off.

"I want to talk to you..." He drifted off. I bit my lip as I looked at him, a bit startled. I was still hurt, still betrayed, and I don't know what to do.

I let out a shaky sigh. "You hurt me." I said as I looked down at the floor. I wasn't going to be able to get over that so quickly.

He just nodded and looked down. "I know," he whispered.

"I just... I want you to know that I'm so sorry, and I miss you, and I'm such an idiot. I should have told you, but I didn't. I can't express how much I regret it." He said as he looked into my eyes. Peter started to drift closer.

I nodded and looked at the floor. He was in front of me now, and I lifted my head to look at him.

"I... I need to know you won't leave me again," I paused. "A-and I need time... I need time to be able to trust again."

"Okay..." He whispered. "I'll give you time."

And just like that, he was gone from my room.
