"Oh. My. God!" squealed Lauren, practically yanking my arm out of its socket in order to get a closer look at my new ring, despite the fact that I was certain that she physically couldn't pull my hand closer to her face than it already was.
"And you're sure it's not an engagement ring or a wedding ring?" Josie asked skeptically.
"Knowing Captain Francis, I would assume that it is at the very least a nod to the possibility," mused Edward.
This was a basic summary of the past 45 minutes.
Lauren fawning over my ring, Josie playing the role of 'concerned parent who doesn't believe that it is not an engagement or a wedding ring and who also feels that this is a sudden commitment that has not been properly thought through', and Edward being too smart for his own good.
I sighed slightly, but couldn't wipe the stupid smile from my face; it had basically been plastered there since I had gotten the ring earlier today.
Now, it was almost 9pm and I was being interrogated by two hyperactive sisters and a smart-ass chauffeur.
I pulled my hand away from Lauren, admiring the ring myself before I replied, "It's not an engagement ring or a wedding ring. It's just... something he gave me to show how much he loves me. He's got a matching one too."
"Awwww!" wailed Lauren, "That's so damn cute!"
Even Josie couldn't hide her large smile. "I'll admit, that's pretty fricken adorable. As long as you two aren't getting married anytime soon, we're all good."
I rolled my eyes. "We're not. Trust me, we are not going to be reenacting Romeo and Juliet."
"Technically, both you and Francis could condense your current love story into the beginning of Romeo and Juliet," Ed piped up.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "No."
                              He smirked. "Yes."
Josie laughed, "He's kind of right-"
"The day I reenact anything from Romeo and Juliet in a positive light is the day I lose the ability to think like a rational, logical human being."
Lauren laid back on my bed. "But like, think about it for a second. Romeo and Juliet meet - bam! Love at first sight. You and Francis meet - bam! Love at first sight-"
"It wasn't love at first sight," I interrupted.
She ignored me and carried on. "Romeo and Juliet get married 24 hours after meeting. You and Francis are getting married-"
                              "We are not getting married."
                              "Yet," said Josie.
                              "-practically 2 months after meeting-"
                              "2 months, 1 week, and 5 days."
"Romeo and Juliet are always confessing their undying love for each other. You and Francis are always confessing your undying love for each other. You two are literally the happy version of Romeo and Juliet."
I was quiet for a moment.
"She has a point," said Edward.
"Whatever." I waved the both of them off.
                              Lauren snickered.
A few beats of contented silence passed over us, the air growing light with that bubbly, soft feeling that I could associate with happiness and sleepiness.
Josie stretched and released a yawn. "Well, I think that's enough talk of rings, marriage, and Romeo and Juliet. I'm going to bed."
"An early date, huh?" joked Lauren, standing up and copying her sister.
