"Shit!" Joelle let out a scream as the undead creatures poured into the house. The stench of rotting flesh was overwhelming. The ravenous moans of the beasts, were all that could be heard.
"Upstairs!" Leslie grabbed Johnny's hand, and led the terrified child up the creaky stairs.
"There ain't nowhere to go from up there!" Sam hollered. He suddenly let out a yelp--causing the other five survivors to turn around.
Several of the undead creatures had taken hold of Sam's leg. He grabbed a step, and hung on for dear life. Although it seemed the monsters would win, and drag him to his death."C'mon guys! Help me!" Sam shouted. His hazel eyes were widened with fear.
The injured Fred, Joelle, and Leslie, were able to save Sam from the creatures. While Kate and Johnny scurried off to hide in one of the bedrooms.
"Everything will be okay," Kate quickly said; due to the fact that Johnny was sobbing.
"I promise.""I wanna go home, to mommy and daddy!" Johnny wailed; bringing tears to Kate's eyes.
How in hell am I gonna explain to this poor boy that his parents are dead? Kate thought to herself.
"We'll find them, okay?"
"You promise?"
"Um.. yeah."
"Thank you, Kate." Johnny wrapped his arms around the guilty Kate.
Fred, Sam, Joelle, and Leslie, burst into the bedroom. Fred and Leslie frantically looked around the room for weapons, while Sam and Joelle pushed a dresser in front of the door.
"Why are you barricading us in here?" Kate asked. Her brow knitted in concern, and she rose an eyebrow.
"Good question.." Joelle replied; with obvious hesitation.
"We can get out the window!" Leslie suggested.
The small room had no closets, it only contained a small twin-sized bed. The mint green wallpaper was peeling, exposing more of the grey wall. A single cracked mirror--hung on the wall, near the bed, over a nightstand.
"I'll check in here." Sam opened the first out of three drawers, in the nightstand. He started humming while he sifted through the drawer.
"What's in it?" Kate inquired.
"Well... tape.. staples, and a mother's day card. I'll try the next one."
He opened the second drawer.
"Nothin'"
He tried the third one.
"Okay.. there's just.. condoms.""Ew." Leslie muttered under her breath.
"Hmm," Sam stuffed several in his pockets.
"They ain't used, I'll keep 'em."Kate raised an eyebrow; eying him suspiciously.
"What? You never know when ya need one.."
Bang!.. bang!
"There's our cue," Leslie stated. The undead creatures begun pounding their fists against the door.
"Out the window!""B-but I-I'm pregnant.." Kate stammered.
"The rest of us will go first, and we'll catch you." Leslie stated. A look of confidence was painted on her face.
"Who goes first?" Joelle inquired.
No one noticed Fred. His skin was ghastly pale, and his eyes were dulled and bloodshot.
"Not me," Leslie was quick to say.
"Me neither." Said Joelle.
"I'll do it," Sam said--with false confidence. He then saw Fred's disheveled state.
"Hey, buddy, you alright there?"Fred stared at him in a unsettling fashion.
"Yeah..... I'm fine." He said plainly, with a blank stare."Ya sure?"
He received no reply.
"Fred?" Kate asked. She slowly stood up from her seat on the bed.
"Are you okay?""Yes. Never been better." Fred finally replied; not taking his eyes off Sam.
"Why ya starin' at me like that?" Sam asked--somewhat nervously.
His eyes flicked between Fred, and Joelle; who stood near him.Crash!
A hole appeared in the door. Along with a greyed hand.
"Go!" Joelle opened the only window. She slid down the roof, and tumbled about two metres to the ground.
Sam pushed Fred out the window, before jumping out as well.
Leslie and Johnny went next, followed by Kate--who was caught by Joelle, Sam, and Leslie."Now what?" Joelle sighed. It was pitch black outside, and it was possible that more of the undead creatures were lurking nearby.
"We run." Was Leslie's reply.
