What Just Happened?

(Chapter 5)

I decide I should go up to Russell's house.

My mom drove my sister up there, so if Nicki was anywhere, she would be there.

I go into what used to be my garage and start looking for my bike.

10 minutes later, I find it under my fathers motorcycle.

My dad was working, so I don't think the earthquake hit him.

What am I talking about? He's flying an airplane in china right now!

There's no way it could have hit him.

...

Could it?

I shake that thought out of my head and start to lift the motorcycle off of my bike.

Man! This thing is heavy!!

I start to use all of my might, and finally, I pushed the motorcycle away.

I grabbed my bike and started to pedal away when I realized that Nelson could never catch up with me.

I start to look around for something I could use.

Nelson was sniffing around a specific spot for a while, so I went to see what it was.

It was a small apple basket.

Perfect.

I grab it and get 2 large wires.

I start to attach the basket to the front of my bicycle.

When I was done, I picked up Nelson placed him in the basket.

I was ready.

I get onto my bike and start pedaling.

Russell's house was an hour and a half away on bike.

I had a long way to go!

Nelson sticks his tongue out and starts panting.

Whenever he pants, it looks like he's smiling.

I started to laugh.

He was such a goof!

But as I started to look around, my smile started to disappear.

This was no time to laugh, I had work to do.

I started pedaling harder.

An hour of going uphill, and I'm exhausted.

I decide to take a little rest.

My throat was so dry, But there was no water in sight, just disaster.

I start to get up when,

**((rumble rumble rumble))**

Oh no.

The ground started shaking again. The bike went flying.

I grab onto Nelson and hold on tight.

I look around, and everything is bouncing.

This must be an aftershock!

CREEEEAAAAKKKK!!!!!!

I turn around to see a light post start to fall.

I push Nelson away, but I didn't get away in time.

The light post fell on my left leg.

I screamed. It hurt so much!

Nelson runs to me and starts sniffing me.

I get up slowly and try to pull my leg out.

It felt broken, no even worse.

I might lose my leg.

I was scared. What would happen to me?

I start to pull my leg again and ever so slowly, it slides out.

I sit for a while, Nelson is curled up beside me.

I start thinking I should give up.

But I knew I had to keep going.

Slowly, I start to crawl towards a broken down tree and grab 2 long, thick branches.

With them, I pick myself up and use them as crutches.

Not very comfy, but it will have to do.

I start hobbling forward, getting use to them.

I start to think.

I can't ride my bike anymore, so it might take me another hour to get there...

Great.

After practicing for a while, I head towards Russell's house.

Nelson follows me, going the same pace as I am.

I was almost there.
