That feeling was unmistakable. My body shivered with their presence. It was like a wave of their aura hit my skin and I could feel them, their essence. A force field of energy. Sebastian still had his arms wrapped around me, and I slowly tried to slide out of his grasp. My senses were on full alert, my heart racing. With every creek of the bed my heart sped up. The sound was small but in the quiet dark it was like an earthquake. I had managed to pull the upper half of my body to the edge of the bed without waking up Sebastian.
My bottom half was still against him and I probably should have gotten completely off the bed before reaching under it. But touching the butterfly swords taped under the bed made me feel so much better, and help subside some of the fear. I pulled the pair of swords downwards and ripped their tape off. My hand came up with the twin swords. They were similar to the Chinese butterfly swords. The only differences was its razored blades, like shark teeth or the stinger of a stingray. These swords were made to shred flesh, not just cut and inscriptions decorated the blades.
The inscriptions in my language looked like a cross between Arabic and Japanese. On the hilt was the emblem of our "military" or "army". My eyes shifted to the door. They were getting closer, fuck. I pulled my body off the bed, sliding on to the floor. I walked on my hands until my knees touched the silk like carpet. I scrambled to my feet and turned to make sure Sebastian was still asleep.
His chest rose and fell evenly with his breaths. His face was peaceful; yeah he was still in the wonderland of his subconscious. I turned towards the door, blades in hand. I pressed my back to the wall and made my way to the door.
It was pointless to do so because they could sense me just as I could sense them. But I was trained to take caution. As a soon to be warrior queen I had to be trained in the art of combat. That doesn't make me a badass or anything because I left before the training really began. All I knew were basics and I prayed that, that'd be enough. I doubt it though.
I got to the door and a wave of energy touched my skin. One in the hallway. I prepared myself but I wanted to "see" exactly where he was, because he could be clutching to the ceiling waiting for me to walk into his trap.
I put my back to the door so I wouldn't have to let go of one of the butterfly swords to touch a hand to the door. I closed my eyes and thrust the energy of my aura out past the door and into the hallway. It was feeling for him or his aura. I could only do this with others of my species because it was our way of recognizing and sensing each other. Like ants in a colony using pheromones to identify each other. Human aura was too weak unless the person had some sort of physic ability but even so they still wouldn't be able to do this with it.
"There!"
I whispered yelled to myself and headed out the door as quietly as possible. I raced toward him as fast as I could so I could have the upper hand and attack before he did. The aquarium’s bright lights took me aback but I didn't hesitate, I charged on. The figure stepped out from the corner of the archway that leads to the guest room. It seemed like he had no weapon and I attacked with a tiger slash.
I felt one blade scrape the rough texture of his armor and the other shred through unguarded flesh. I stepped back as blood began to flow heavily down his torso. It seemed like he underestimated me or I overestimated him.
"My queen....." He whispered in a voice of agony, in the harsh tongue of my language.
He dropped to his knee, holding his waterfall of a wound. He made dreadful sounds as he struggled to breathe.
"My mother is the queen." I spat back at him before he collapsed.
I stepped over him. The wound soaking his body with his own blood. The cut had sliced all the way through, past his lungs and blood vessels. I flexed my aura out, around the house to sense the next target. Three left close by.
